This lawsuit alleges that Facebook improperly tracked their users from the United States while visiting other websites that had a Facebook ‘Like’ button on their pages. Facebook has agreed to a $90 million settlement payout to affected users.

Who Is Eligible?

Anyone who was a Facebook user in the US and visited non-Facebook websites that displayed the Facebook ‘Like’ button, between April 22, 2010 and September 26, 2011.

How Much?

The total settlement fund is $90 million. There is no stated estimate of how much payout will be, it’ll depend on the number of claimants.

Important Dates

  • Claims must be submitted by September 22, 2022
  • Must have had a Facebook account between Apr. 22, 2010 through Sept. 26, 2011

Final Thoughts

Should be easy enough to fill out if you were affected during the eligible timeframe.

    • Received the following message from the settlement administrator:

"Thank you for contacting the Facebook User Privacy Settlement.

Distribution for this settlement has not started as appeals are not resolved. Settlement payments cannot be distributed to eligible claimants until the appeals are resolved. An Appeal hearing was held on February 7, 2025. The time frame for resolving an appeal can vary widely, and we will know more as the appeals proceed.

Bizarre. Clearly some of us have received payments.

  • I filed a claim for this settlement, but didn't get a payout. I reached out to the law firm via the Contact email and got this reply:

After we carefully reviewed your claim, your claim has been denied because you were not identified as a Settlement Class Member on the list of eligible Class Members provided by Defendant. You are unable to appeal your denied claim. Please be advised these are the terms of the settlement. This decision is final.

    I guess I have my privacy, but don't get my $40.67... :`(

  • I just received today's Informed Delivery and I see an envelope coming from "Facebook Internet Tracking Litigation". I'm 99.9% sure that's the check for this settlement. 😀

    • If your Informed Delivery is anything like mine, and if it's something you've been waiting on and is important, it will of course not actually deliver until a solid week later (or sometimes not at all), yet EVERYTHING ELSE on the same Informed Delivery e-mail will deliver that same day lol.

  • @guest_2043668,

After seeing you reply #2043668 to me, I was a little confused and did some research. I then realized that I had conflated 2 different Facebook class action settlements. It seems that you may have done the same thing.

To answer your question, the deadline for the settlement in this post was in 2022, like I wrote in the comment that you replied to.

However, there is a completely separate Facebook Settlement found at this link: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/facebook-725m-class-settlement-for-us-users-from-2007-2022/.

I happened to submit claims for both. I submitted the claim for the other one in 2023 so that is probably what you are thinking of.

Anyway, it turns out that the 2023 settlement is the one where I updated the FI that I wanted to receive the money so that is a moot point.

Also, the link that I provided earlier was likely for the other class action settlement.

For the settlement in this post, I actually requested a physical check so hopefully that will arrive soon.

Anyone else willing to admit that they conflated the 2 Facebook settlements also or will I be on an island on my own again? 😀

    • Thanks, @guest_2042265! I kept digging through the spam folder trying to find the stupid email, but now it looks like P2 and I only made a claim in the other case.

  • For those who were/ are expecting the payout but haven't received it yet, I got this response back from the administrator:

"Settlement claims are currently being reviewed and validated."

Don't know if this is a canned response but still some hope for those of us who haven't gotten their payment yet.

  • I love how some people here selected payment via PayPal despite not having PayPal accounts.

  • I got my $40.67 credited to my PayPal account yesterday. I just signed up for it a few days ago. I do have a Facebook account that I spend about 5 minutes per day on; not a fan of FB.

  • Coincidentally I got a letter today saying I was ineligible for a payment from FB’s SEC settlement. I ripped open the envelope thinking it would be the check for the settlement discussed here. Here is still hoping I get money for being tracked by Zuck.
