Our Verdict
I anticipate long lines and the nicer/prettier colors going fast. Even if you don’t wear lipstick these make great gifts. As always you can always give them to somebody less fortunate than yourself.

This promo was completely screwed up. We went to Dillards (that has MAC ) about 20 minutes after store opening. There were about 20 people trying lipstick. The worker loudly announced come to register when you chose your color. We came to register and worker told us that they are out of free lipstick "we gave everything (38) in 9am" (store opens at 10). That's was quite a cheating. If they were out of free lipstick, why they wouldn't announce it loudly? I bet they would never have such crowd if not for this promo. Just place a sign (promo ended) and I'm OK with that. I liked worker's saying - we don't have free lipstick anymore, do you want to purchase it?
I went to the Mac store at around 10:40am. There were about 60 people in line. I asked people in the middle of the line and they said that they waited for an hour. So estimated time from end to line to get the free lipstick would be 2 hours. I gave up. I went to CVS for the Amazon promo instead :)
Yeah, I hit more than one store and I still couldn't make it, lol. First freestanding one "sold out" while I was in line a few minutes before noon; no idea when Macy's sold out. I would imagine far earlier considering the display is smaller. Both store employees were clearly told to respond to everyone who complained with "We've been open since 10".
My friend is a manager at MAC and said it is only for the color rocker line. Still awesome, but just so people are aware.
I predict a lot of angry disappointed people then, since outlets like BuzzFeed are writing things like "any lipstick ever from the line qualifies", and I'm sure other outlets too. Hope your friend has had a hearty breakfast, lol.

Heard similar things, I think it will vary by store.
Actually very good as gifts or if you want the full lips effect when dressing up as a clown this Halloween.
