Our Verdict
Earlier this year we saw a similar offer on the Premier at 170,000 with $4,000 spend. The no-fee Traveler card we’ve seen 100k and 120k offers with the same $2,000 spend requirement; the current offer of two nights + 40,000 is unique if you can max out value on the free night certificates. There’s also an increased offer on the IHG Business card as well.
Regarding the IHG Premier offer, a lot of people won’t value it as much as the 5-free-night signup offer we saw a few months ago. The no-fee Traveler card is more interesting, but again, many will prefer to simply signup for the Premier card instead.

Currently at the Intercontinental Crete for 5 nights and then Intercontinental Athens for 4 nights and booked all with ONLY Personal Premier and Business Premier bonuses. Also using one of the free night certs on a crown plaza stay for 1 night on the way back home! IHG can have value guys!
Is it worth giving up the old $49 IHG. Card to qualify for new bonus? Anyone had success with that?
No, I'd just keep the old Select card and get the Biz one for 4th night free benefit.
I wish the spend wasn't always so much more for business bonuses. 6 months help, but $9k is 2 bonuses or more on some cards.
Worth it to avoid a credit line I guess (And I'm not eligible with the grandfathered card anyways)
If I have the grandfathered IHG Select card, they will simply decline my application?
best card to have. never cancelling it. 49 bucks for an up to 40k night room cert. Cant beat it
I think I've heard that on Chase bonuses before, but they could also just not give the bonus.
I have the grandfathered card as well and the math doesn't bode well the favorable signup bonuses. Keeping for now as I have a decent redemption, and can find other good bonuses to do instead.
What type of redemption did you have? I found it is very hard to get a decent redemption with my IHG points :(
For the IHG Premier card, the referral bonus is only 140,000. Will the referral bonus go up to 165,000 as well?
Be careful referring for this card. If Chase sends you a 1099, they will value the referral points at 1CPP.
In my experience the referral offer does not usually change so I would expect it to remain at 140,000
Would've opened the IHG Business for 200k, but definitely not biting at $9k spend. They need to do better, $5k max, but even then that's a lot, with how weak and devalued IHG points are nowadays.
Looks like I am a rare user who values 165k points more than free nights :)
I often book using points for 3days to get 4 th for free. For example my latest Honolulu booking cost me 108 points for 4 days. So I could use 165 as 6 days there.
Often I use cheaper hotels which costs around 25k points per night. Then redemption even better. But YMMV.
I frequently get excellent redemptions with the fourth night perk. Generally, these destinations are abroad, but they definitely exist.
You can even get some hotels for less than 20k. The 165k points can get you 10 free nights if you use the free 4th day perk
Try booking a room using points if satisfied then apply source: platinum member , not able to book anything decent ,member since 2011
