Wow that is objectively ugly. I’ll definitely be canceling my reserve soon as the renewal date comes up. Negative changes across the board plus it just looks cheap and tacky now. This relaunch is a disaster so far.
You guys need to relax. It's nothing that can't be fixed with a Sharpie.
Wow so consumers are paying $250 for some snakeskin design on the metal card....no thanks.
The advertisement with the woman holding the oversized card made it look like a snakeskin purse. The card is mainly meant for women..?
What's the strategy here? I have Preferred, should I pc to $550 reserve before af jumps?
Yes
Can’t wait for $400 annual credit on snakeskin apparel ($100/quarter)
They've basically come up with a whole new card but kept the same name. The old business model probably wasn't sustainable in the long run, but they've built their customer base for it now.
I I don't know what customer base are they even targeting with this card. Every single commenter on their Instagram posts is complaining about these changes.
It's called sample bias. Those commenting are likely foaming-at-the-mouth optimizers. The average cardholder is not hinging on the release of the refresh . . . and likely is not even aware of it.
What customer base they are targeting with this card is the high-spending traveler. They are going up-town with the card. They are NOT after an average-income consumer.
For these people, the big spend in on airfare and hotels . . . not rental cars. To get 4X on $100k of hotel spend, they'll get an extra 100k UR every year. They'll get 1X on $10k of rental car spend, they'll lose 20k UR every year. Net positive 80k UR. Or, they'll get 3X on rental cars via another card (which they will have).
Would YOU pay an extra $250 annual fee if you were going to net 80k-100k extra URs . . . before transfer bonus? (This is not a trick question.) For my highly selective redemptions, for that level of spend, those points would be worth $3000 to $6000 . . . per year.
This same customer base will likely be able to use enough of the new/old statement credits to easily cover the higher annual fee. For myself, it's a drop-kick.
I don't agree that they're targeting high-spending travelers, that would make the card less profitable for Chase than ever. More likely they're targeting high-spenders with travel aspirations, who aren't worried about 1X earning on their general spend.
Oh, yeah, sure - all those sophisticated high-end customers are really going to love the coupons for a free large bag of fries at White Castle. Those same wealthy geniuses will enjoy paying a premium to book flights and hotels through Chase, when they could have booked the exact same seat or room for less if they booked directly with the airline or hotel. Wile E Coyote, Super Genuis....
4x is for direct bookings. No one needs to use the portal. You either failed reading comprehension or you have a massive chip on your shoulder.
So edgy

"Have you seen my snakeskin premium credit card?"
it's a symbol of my individuality and my belief in personal freedom
don't tread on my snekskin!
A limited edition yellow version will be an optional choice.
Yes, that one also adds a "sovereign citizen" license plate to the SUB.
I was led to believe that it would be much, much larger.
