The Fine Print

  • Valid 8/15/21 – 8/21/21
  • Limit 1 per household/business

Our Verdict

Use a card like the INK Cash/Plus which earns 5x at office supply stores. Dosh offers 2% back at Office Depot/Max, though the terms exclude gift cards from earning.

  • What does it mean "Report L3"? I need to spend $300 on Bofa non-business Visa. Will it be fine?

  • Interesting experience for me - and by her acclimation the cashier - today. Tried buying two $200 cards ($6.95 activation fee btw) along with some chips using mobile pay linked Altitude Reserve. Heard a bizarre noise (again cashier claimed never heard it before), looked like it was processed on my side but no receipt generated. Tried it again and only thing processed were the chips with the other $398.90 registering payment due. Pulled out an AA MasterCard and finished purchase. Would sure prefer the 3x points versus more AA miles. Fwiw, this happened at an Office Depot in Ohio. Appreciate any advice.

  • I can't keep up with all the Staples/OD promotions lately. I've been using these cards for organic non bonus spend since WM seems to have ended, but I'm still sitting on several cards from the last few deals. I definitely can't complain about all the bonus points lately, but this has been going on weekly for a while now.

  • This may have been answered many times but I'm newer to MS. So can someone please help?

Will this work for hitting a portion of my bonus minimum spend for the Delta gold amex card? I dont really care about liquidating with a MO at Walmart. Will be able to just spend it over time. Does Amex have an issue with a $400 charge at OM/OD? As in, can they see L3 data that its a gift card, in which case I risk the RAT team?

I dont/wont be doing this on the regular, if that matters.

    Thank you!

      • Somewhat region-dependent, but there's a grocery chain on my side of the country (Winco) that doesn't accept credit cards. Most of the time they have the cheapest groceries, too. So I nab a couple of gift cards every couple months (on non-amex cards) and run them out on discounted groceries. I realize that you could still just be meeting the minimum spend *with* the groceries at another store, but cost savings are noticeable and you can hold on to the gift cards forever.
Oh, and they have an incredible bulk section too. Two months worth of groats in one trip! So I'd probably be shopping there regardless.

      • L3 Data is exclusive to Business/Corporate Cards. It has no bearing on Individual cards.

One of the many, MANY small, but important differences between personal and biz cards with regard for "protections" and privacy.

  • I'm usually answering these questions for VGC but since I haven't messed with MCGCs much lately... are these particular cards more or less dead for liquidation at WM?

    • Answering my own question... no dice on loading a $100 card (BIN 5113 32) onto Green Dot, either one swipe or splitting it into two $50s. Likely would be the same story for BB or buying MO.

      • @guest_1239570 Are MB VGCs from Staples working for loading AMEX BB at regular terminal for the full $200? Appreciate any data point regarding this. Thx

    • The 6% is basically meaningless because it was capped at $10 a day anyways. So on a $398.90 purchase, you got $10 instead of the $7.90 (2%) that you get now, not much of a difference.

    • Dosh terms were: “Offer valid on 7/21/21, 7/28/21, 8/4/21, 8/11/21 from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. CT.

      But they may extend it.

  • I ask the cashier to do 2 separate transactions of 2 gift cards each and they haven't had any problems with that... saves trips that way.

    • Depends on the cashier- some will enforce the 1 per day limit, and some won't. It's great when you get multiple transactions in a trip, for sure. To make it even sweeter, make sure you use a different credit card for the second one, linked to a different Dosh account so you can get more than $10 from them :)

  • Any, as long as you buy $300 worth. I would buy a $200 and $100 or better yet 2 of the $200 cards.

    • I agree, any combination. Two $200's is best, to be able to do a larger amount at once. The $20-$200 variable load ones also work, if they are out of the fixed value $200 ones. You just need to make sure to be over $300 with them. If out of all $200 ones, you can also do three $100 ones, but it would end up costing a little in fees ($5.95 x 3 -$15 or $2.85 total).
