Our Verdict

This is an annual deal for Prime Day and a nice little perk for Prime members. I usually stock up with an Amazon reload (our affiliate link here and below) during Prime Day to get the extra 1%. You can also load up on Whole Foods gift cards or any other third-party gift card at the increased 6% rate.

  • Be aware of how much you are loading if you are also stacking this with the "spend $50 on an egift card, get $12.50" listed here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/begins-7-12-amazon-prime-buy-50-amazon-giftcard-or-reload-get-12-50-promotional-credit/

    It will all be copacetic if you are able to use the $12.50 which I think expires a few weeks later. So if you are chasing the extra 1% and reload for months worth of spending, you might not use up your $12.50 in time (unless there's a way to selectively apply your promo credit later). And doing the math, the $12.50 bonus is equivalent to the extra 1% if you were to reload at $1250. I have no plans on spending that much in the near future but may top up my reloads just a touch anyway.

      You also don't have to reload your balance, you can buy a gift card and not load it. I don't know about anyone else, but I keep a lot of Amazon money around, accumulating from Chase/BoA/Amex offers to Office Depot, Staples, etc.

  • @chucksithe ”This year I’ll load up my Amazon balance with a Chase Freedom cards for 5x rewards on Amazon during Q2 2022” - I think you should make it more clear that you are loading up your balance in Q2 (now through June 30), and not on Amazon Prime Day which is in Q3.
