Recap: Expanding Zelle, Alaska Satellite WiFi & More

  • The Alaska wifi update takes a decent amount of the pain of losing the gogo credits on the Altitude Reserve, since that's the main place I was using the credits.

  • I don’t see zelle competing with credit/debit cards anytime soon. They’re not even the same product. One is an account you can borrow against with fraud protection, the second is basically digital cash. What is a customers incentive to use zelle over a card if the product or service costs the same with both but they get some “perks” by using a credit card?

    • the question would be if they can make the cost cheaper. currently CC agreements make that impossible (i think). but maybe they could change that.

      • Businesses are allowed to offer a cash discount for...paying in cash. You might have seen it with gas stations. It's in the 2010 Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank Act.

It's arguable that a Zelle "payment" system could be interpreted as cash payments and therefore allowed to have a discount. Not definite, though.
