From time-to-time Amex targets some people with an offer to get bonus Membership Rewards points for enrolling in their extended payment option. Many people are finding this offer now in their Amex login, alongside other Amex Offers.
- Get 10,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you enroll your card for the extended payment option
- All reports that I’ve seen indicate that no hard pull is done when enrolling in the pay-over-time option
The difference between a credit card (Blue Cash, Everyday, SPG, etc.) and a charge card (Platinum, Green, Gold, etc.) is that credit cards offer the option to pay the balance over time while charge cards do not. Amex offers us to enroll for the pay-over-time option on charge cards, essentially converting the charge card into a credit card.
Most people should have the option to enroll in pay-over-time, but only select people will see the 10,000 bonus offer. And only on charge cards. In the past, this offer has been found more often on business charge cards, not personal cards. You may even be offered 10k for each card charge card separately.
We don’t recommend that anyone actually use the pay-over-time option as it will incur huge interest fees. You get the bonus simply for enrolling; no need to carry any balance.

- Offer valid through 11/01/2016
- Points will be credited to your account within 6-8 weeks after enrollment is approved (reportedly, the points post within a few days, typically)

Hello. I've been scrolling through for a while. Didn't you have the near same promo for the Hilton Honors? It was 10K pts for adding an authorized user. I applied for it, got the card but misplaced the terms. I'm trying to find the site/page again please.

I am already enrolled in this feature. I called to unenroll my PRG and the CS Rep said I cannot enroll again in the future for any of the features. I told him to go ahead anyway since it doesn't matter whether or not I'm enrolled or not.
On the plus side, he said I could get 2500 points for adding an authorized user!!! Yaay. There's currently no authorized user on my account.

I received this offer in the postal mail, though with a different offer validity date.
While I would welcome an easy 10K points, like Nick (above) I'm wondering how this might alter my longer term relationship with AMEX.
I also wonder if the pay over time feature would negate the "charge card" aspect and it would be considered a credit card thereby limiting the number of cards one can get. Also, having both charge cards and credit cards diversifies one's credit and would yield a higher credit score. So if doing this means that it would be considered a credit card and not a charge card, then you are possibly screwing yourself for only 10K points.
A word of caution. I was targeted for this offer on my Business Rewards Gold card in Sep 2015, but they never honored it. I had chatted with them several times over the course of 6 months to check when my points would be deposited but they kept on saying that they were investigating the issue and would have a resolution in 4-6 weeks. Each time was the same response. Finally, the last customer rep I spoke to said that they never offer MR points for signing up for the Pay Over Time option. I even had the mailed offer and screenshot of the signup confirmation, but they still would not honor it. Total waste of time. I would be very cautious and try to get a written confirmation from them first.

I wonder if opting in would then count this Charge card as a Credit card against the amex 4 Credit card limit.
I looks like I enrolled in pay over time when I first got my Premier Rewards Gold Card. Any idea how to un-enroll? I've looked but don't see the option. I'm guessing I'll never get targeted for one of these offers as long as I'm already enrolled.
Seems that you have to call in. Found in FAQ under 'Pay Over Time' under account.

To terminate your participation in the Flexible Payment Option, you must notify us by calling us at the telephone number on the back of your Card. Termination of your participation will be effective when we process your request. Any new charges posted to your account after your termination date must be paid in full by the payment due date on your statement. If you have a Pay Over Time balance when you terminate your participation, you must make at least minimum due payments until the balance is paid in full.
