The Offer
- TD Bank is offering customers a bonus of up to $1,000 when they open a new TD Ameritrade account. Bonuses are tiered as follows:
- $1,000 bonus when you open a new account with $500,000 or more
- $600 bonus when you open a new account with $250,000-$499,999
- $300 bonus when you open a new account with $100,000-$249,999
- $150 bonus when you open a new account with $50,000-$99,999
Our Verdict
Significantly worse than the $1,500 bonus that has been on offer in the past. Because of that we won’t be adding this to the best brokerage bonuses.

DP TD Ameritrade:
April 1: Opened account using link in DOC
April 7: $51k ACATs transfer taxable brokerage from Vanguard
May 17: $300 bonus posted as "rebate"
Call fidelity and merrill lynch, tell them offer of TD and they will give $200 to $300 more then these cheapies
what tier are you talking about? i am in 50-100k tier. thanks
I think Fidelity stopped their generous bonus policy about 5 yers ago. Merrill might match, but they will probably try to lowball you. Oh, and Merrill has a habit of going offline for hours during market meltdowns.
It says that: "Not valid with current TD Ameritrade accounts." I have an IRA accounts with them, and I would like open a regular brokerage with them. Do I qualify for the bonus?
.
Disconnect between article title and contents. Title says $1500 but mentions $1000 only in content.

Do we need a referral or just open an account?
This is their regular referral link, does not seem like a tdbank customer link.
Looks like only $1,000 to me.
While it may be worse it's better than zero, which will be the case when Schwab takes over.
Ironically I did a TD to Schwab transfer to get a bonus and I might do the reverse one soon to get another bonus again. Funny. Too bad I cannot get a Schwab Amex.
Apparently, there are some issues with Schwab actually taking over, not sure if/when that will happen.
Are you finding Schwab brokerage services the same as with TD? Free trades and all? I've considered doing as well, as currently with TD.
I like Schwab a bit better, just a couple of interface wrinkles and there is also a free checking account there. But I also like bonuses. I am not that impressed with Merrill at all but I like the platinum reward tier.
