Our Verdict

They are also offering a 4% bonus for Visa gift cards as well, that might be a better option for some people. From memory they used to offer 5% back on Visa as well.

  • VGC doesn't work with Venmo. Most people would be better off ACHing to an interest-bearing bank account whenever payout is available, rather than waiting to accumulate enough to make the $5 physical GC option worthwhile.

  • VGCs did give 5%, good catch. My only issues with the VGCs are the 6 month expiration and inability to use with card-linked programs that run on Plaid. The former is minor, and unless this fixes the latter, I don't see what the fuss is about.

    • Why would you ever want to use a VGC of this type with a card-linked program? If it is a regular VGC with PIN, then you can just cash it out regularly like any other (money orders, prepaid loads, etc). You can just use a regular credit card for in-store purchases that you can use with card-linked programs. Unless I'm missing something?

      • How do you cash out VGC ? You mean at atm ? Or cashbacks from store ?
Could you elaborate the process plz and also any catch ?

      • The VGC in question is a "virtual gift card." It's a card number, CVV, and expiration date - no PIN - and expires in 6 months. I guess one could have a cashier key it in, but I'm not so sure anyone would agree to do so. I'd just forgo the 5% bonus (and wait the extra week or so) if I really wanted cash.

The easiest way to quickly maximize your return is to get the virtual gift card (+5%) and use it to buy GCs on Raise, MPX, and/or Amazon (fill up your GC balance). I usually opt for MPX because I can liquidate the whole thing in a single step.

  • TCB has become one of the worst...not ever tracks anymore and they just state some random “other marketing channel” BS to deny paying. Recommend avoiding at all costs.

    • That's been my experience as well. My gift card purchase did not track, and when I try to contact them about it, it tells me to login. But I can't login because their website is broken. I tried to reply to their support e-mail, and I got an auto-reply saying it wasn't tracked.

Very unprofessional and not dependable at all. Avoid.
