United has announced a new partnership with CLEAR. CLEAR makes it easier and quicker to get through airport security lanes at select airports (and select times at those airports). This is possible with dedicated CLEARlanes at these airports. You need to present your boarding pass and tap your finger to use these lanes. As part of this new partnership United elites will have access to discounted/free membership. Prices are as follows:
- Premier 1K® members: Free
- Premier Platinum, Premier Gold, Premier Silver and U.S. Credit Cardmembers: $109 annually
- MileagePlus members: $119 annually
The standard pricing is $179 annually. Earlier this year Delta announced prices would be increasing for their elites (General Delta members saw the price increase from $99 to $119. Platinum, Gold & Silver saw the price increase from $79 to $109). Hertz also has a partnership with CLEAR offering up to 6 months free, you can also get four months for free from TripIt. The Hertz deal also works even if you’ve had a free membership before.
As part of this new United announcement they also said they are working to expand to other key locations including Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in the coming months.

I have to admit being wary of giving CLEAR my biometric data with breaches continuing to happen so often. But I don't feel that much safer with the Trusted Traveler Programs either 😅
