Vacasa Devalues Wyndham Redemptions

Vacasa has devalued Wyndham redemptions. Previously you had been able to book properties that cost up to $500 per room after taxes & fees (up to $350 before taxes & fees) for 15,000 points. Now the maximum is $350 per room pernight after taxes and fees. That moves the maximum value point per 3.7¢ to 2.6¢ (after including the 10% rebate). Overall a very negative change.

  • Sorry to hear about the Vacasa deval but there are still decent opportunities for using the points. I just stayed at a hotel for 15k/nt that was going for over $1,000/nt after tax because of a college football game. (Not mentioning where because I've done it 2 years in a row and hope to get it for a few more.)

  • Wyndham is worthless now!! We called about several units and none of them would book for points. I just hope I find a way to spend all these Wyndham points.

    • I have the best luck with rentals that have just recently started listing. I can only assume due to the unavailability of bookings with points that owners aren't getting what they think they should when allowing points bookings.

  • DP: Had an existing 1 br 4 night reservation booked a few months ago at $415 a night all in. Something you can evidently not book any longer.

Had been planning to move the dates but hadn’t gotten around to it. Called in 10/26 and they allowed me to move the dates and I received the confirmation email today. New dates all in were $445 a night.

Could be since I originally booked before the effective date of the change OR could be an opportunity to book at low season or random dates under cap and call in to move to high season that would be over the new cap.

  • Finding inventory is tough, too, now (I tried approximately 10 requests for a late April stay in Maui and got one acepted for four night for just over $1,300). My guess is the devaluation hit the owners along with us users and the owners are allowed to opt out of accepting points (either that or I just had poor luck). If this is true, it is worse than just a devaluation.

  • I guess it's better than increasing the number of points needed for booking a room (e.g. from 15000 a night to 30000 a night).

    • Yes and no. Some places can’t be booked at all with points. So this isn’t just about getting outsized value. You wont even be able to use your points during peak times in many locations.

  • Ouch.

But it was coming. I did not know there was a $500 limit with taxes. Thought it just have to be below $350 per night. It is going to be hard to find properties now

  • Well, that sucks. I still have 120k points even though I spent 6 nights in Hawaii this summer. It's still a good deal, but finding vacation rentals for less than $350 with taxes might make choices very limited in some locations, especially for 1bdrs.

      • It's 13.5k if you have wyndham cc, but yes. What I wanted to say is that 1bdrs cost more in dollar terms than multi bedrooms, if you look at per bedroom price (which makes sense as all properties get a living room, kitchen, bathroom etc)
