American Express Sending Some Platinum Cardholders Giftcards (#AmexAppreciates)

Periodically American Express seems to send out gifts to some of their Platinum cardholders under their #AmexAppreciates program. For example we’ve seen the following sent out before:

There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to how American Express chooses to target people, but it looks like another round of gift have been sent out for the festive season. @esthery reports receiving $100 off to Fontaine with no minimum spend requirement & @MilesperDay received $200 to Ramy Brook. It doesn’t look like these are true gift cards, instead they are $x off meaning you can’t resell them on normal gift card exchanges. As always it’s unlikely you’ll receive one of these gifts but if you do let us know in the comments below. Also keep in mind they are currently offering a bonus of 100,000 points on this card.

  • I was highly disappointed - though partly my fault. Having received a special gift, I have mis-read the deadline and thus, when I attempted to collect it, the card had expired. It is regrettable that, though the deadline is firm, an occasional exemption cannot be made for absent-minded people like me.

  • I received a $100 off a $100 or more purchase to Total Wine; odd thing is I don't have an Amex Platinum, just an Amex Hilton card.

  • Received a $250 gift card (w/no minimum spend) to the experience site IfOnly.com, related, I assume, to my Business Platinum (I have 8 Amex cards in total).

  • I have a a very large tax payment due this quarter. I got the Schwab platinum to meet the MSR. BUT i can get in one more. Thinking the 90k virgin Atlantic.

Been having myself to get with chase but so many other suitors came along and u just couldn't resist.

  • William's post is useful; both for the info it provides and for a space to discuss.

I previously received the Tiffany gift card from Amex. Got some useful info in the comments section. That helped me know what to expect when I went to the store to redeem.

  • My annual fee is due in exactly 28 days. I'm leaning 75% toward canceling it and 25% keeping it. I didn't receive any of the above, but hoping there's a good offer since I'm planning to reduce my number of Amex cc and charge cards from 8 (or 10 with the Citi Hilton cards being converted to Amex) to 4 within the next six months.
