Our Verdict
Previous the best deal was either 45k points + $100 companion voucher or 35k points + $100 companion + $100 statement credit. You can read more about Spirit’s “new” loyalty program “free spirit” here. If you have a clear use of Spirit points then I can see this bonus being useful, but for most people this is an easy skip. We will still be adding it to the list of the best credit card bonuses.

I'm guessing the 5K bonus will probably still be given for inflight applications (55K + $100 Companion Voucher)
For those interested: No instant cc number upon approval. 60k Bonus points showed up on spirit.com the day after statement close. Travel companion voucher email received the following day.
Per The Points Guy, Spirit has cut 37 routes so if you were considering applying, make sure your city wasn't one that was cut.
I assume with the upcoming JetBlue airlines and Spirit frugal budget airline merger will cause a conflict. Spirit with Bank of America whereas JetBlue airlines with Barclay bank. History has taught us that Spirit airline points will be devalued and expire. Variable chart.
I highlighted this previously but a $50 booking fee + $5.60 applies when booking flights departing within 90 days. This renders *most* redemptions useless as Spirit flights are often $50 by themselves. I had my 30k points for years until they finally expired.

With the upcoming merger, will these Spirit Miles become JetBlue Miles?
I wonder about this as well... could potentially be quite lucrative.
Even though the Spirit shareholders voted in favor (and JetBlue was the one that offered it in the first place, so you have their consent, of course), the merger is not definite. They still need to get regulatory approval as well as a lot of other steps. This all means that these miles would probably expire long before the merger could actually complete.
Could it become JetBlue miles? Maybe. But no one knows right now.

Yes if you fly spirit. Surprisingly, their points are typically a 1.2cpp rate for spirit award travels.

I think the redemption fee is waived if you hold the card, that’s one of the benefits of the card
This is actually a great offer if you're ok with flying Spirit. Spirit points are worth about 1 cent, sometimes a little more. For $1k spend it's a pretty good return. Not worth a 5/24 slot for me though.
