Our Verdict

Not as good as the $75 you could get last year. The Pixelbooks are $999 minimum without the coupon, sadly the coupons can’t be stacked. The $50 Best Buy gift card is worth it if you have a POS laptop that still powers on. Might be worth looking for cheap laptops that still work on eBay/craigslist if you have a use for Best Buy gift cards and can be bothered. In previous years some people have been able to do multiple trade ins, but YMMV.

  • This deal is dead. I got another good deal to buy a laptop from Dealhack. It worked for me and I saved big.

  • This might be dead. The direct link posted takes you to a page that reads "We’re sorry, something went wrong." I also backtracked to the BB offers page and the pixel book link on it also does not work. A Samsung offer link does work.

My store has taken some odd things from me. No name laptop brands and they just select "other brand" "other CPU" "other OS" just to keep the line moving. But you could probably do the same as $50 or better selling on eBay. Like an old car, to the right person working parts are worth more separately than everything assembled.

  • I certainly understand that it is YMMV... After going through the process of the verification of laptop (OS, Memory, Storage etc.,) with CSR for 20+ minutes, they offered to give me $50 Giftcard, but only if I can wipe the system clean... Unfortunately I didn't have any tools with me at that time to wipe all off the data, but Geeksquad was willing to do that if I pay $95 to clean the data... Really :-)

  • If the laptop is worth more than $50 trade in value, will they give you the actual trade in value plus the $100 coupon off the pixelbook?

I assume they wouldn't give you the actual trade in value plus the $50 gift card and the $100 coupon, right?

    • They will give you the actual trade in value plus the coupon. The $50 is just a minimum, it's not in addition to the trade in value.

  • Can I bring in an old laptop for the $50 GC and not buy the Pixelbook? Also my laptop screen is a little wonky with colors. I've been using it for years for work. Battery holds a charge and I've had it since college, so like 15+ years old now.

Can I trade in a Chromebook too? Everything works well on that.

  • I have a few lap[tops i prepped for last time I couldn't use. Don't forget, the last one ended early, so don't sit on this.

When you follow the link and fill out the details, it asks you if you have a power adapter and battery. Even if you say no, it still gives you the promotional value of $50. I have the battery but not an adapter for it (i use one i have for antoher latpop, but i can't turn that in). So I printed out that sheet, and I'm gonna bring the laptop, charged up, to best buy, without the adapter, and i'll let you know what happens...

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but I think by working they means "boots into an OS", do they not? Which necessitates you leave the HD in, which necessitates not wiping it, which necessitates them potentially having whatever data you "deleted".

  • >Laptop must have a trade-in value to qualify for gift card minimum.

I have a really cheap small laptop. Works fine, but it's clearly cheap (11 inch screen, atom processor, 2 GB RAM). In fact originally bought it for $100. They could easily say "it doesn't have a trade-in value at BBY, only laptops that cost more than $600 today have a trade-in value." So it depends whether they take cheap laptops at all.
