Hilton are currently offering 5,000 points when you pay for your stay using a Visa card before January 31st, 2017. A Hilton representative has confirmed that reward stays count for the Visa Bonus:
So as long as you charge something to a Visa card, the 5,000 points will post. This means that you can get these 5,000 points on award stays & cash and booking stays. Previously we pointed out ways to stack Hilton discounts to get up to 52x points per $1 spent and 5,000 points/$70 cash back per booking.
What’s great about this little trick is that now we know we can book the room using an American Express card to get one of the following promotions:
- #AmexHilton: Spend $250, Get $50 Back
- #AmexWAC: Waldorf Astoria & Conrad Hotels Spend $350 Or More & Get $70 Back
And then put an incidental charge on a Visa card to get the 5,000 points.
Our Verdict
Award nights at Hilton start at 5,000 points so technically you could get a free night (well for the cost of the cheapest item in the mini bar) by using this trick. Either way it’s a nice and easy way to get some free Hilton points if you have any stays with them. I’ll be keeping an eye out for some low category Hilton properties to see if I can make them work with my travel plans.

Can you just go to a Hilton and buy a HIlton Gift card?

T&C state promo may night be combined. Any data points on 5000 points bonus plus double/triple points?
So if my work pays for my travel with their own corporate card could I ask the front desk to put a mini bar charge on my own Visa at the end of the stay and that would trigger the 5k points?

OK, question.
If one used the $250/$50 AMEX offer and managed to have their stay bill over the $250, could one use a Visa for, let's say the extra $10, and qualify for the Visa points? I am quite used to splitting up my bill at checkout to get the best on my CCs.
But, could someone please explain this?

I was able to use the AmEx offer three times on one stay. I tried to use the visa offer as well but don't think the points posted to my account. Just offering data points.
