Our Verdict

You might prefer to use your American Express card to get $50 back on purchases of $250+ plus. It’s actually possible to get a ridiculous stacking with Hilton at the moment, I’ll have a post on that tomorrow.

What counts as a stay to get the 5,000 point bonus? It may be annoying, but possible. What if you stay 1 night, check out, and then book another night to claim another 5,000 points? Think this will work?

I wonder how long it takes for points to show up in the account. I know it says 6-8 weeks, but if it faster I could report back before the promotion is over. I am headed to Bali and the Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is Cat 1 so it would be a good place to try I guess. Any idea? Thanks!

Anyone know is this is a one time promo? If I’ve already received it once can I get it again if I boook another Hilton stay through the app?

Will a Visa debit gift card work or foes it have to be a Visa CC?

Hmmm 5k points more, is half a free night at Hampton Inn.

Sadly I booked my reservation for my Jan months ago for a cheaper prices ($234.38) booked with my AMEX HH (1640.66 HH points)

Price now is $64 more ($300) if I rebook with this offer and I would get 5K HH points and 600 Chase UR points (CSP)…. Debating if this is worth it now.

just get creative. book one night at the beginning or end of your stay overlapping your prebooked night. then call to reduce or extend or whatever your original booking. so you will have 2 reservations covering your stay. you should be fine. just keep checking.

also jan is far away so keep your eyes open and plan accordingly. chek rates. its more now but its changes later. and you can apply for various HH CC. using 2x CSP is not worth it unless thats ur only travel visa CC. so many other options. maybe you will have a round of apps by the time its jan.

Thanks. I actually did the creative thing you said.

I decided to book the last night with my CSP.. That is the best visa I have for travel right now..other than my Costco Visa which is 3% CB on travel. I think I would rather get the UR points than the extra 1% CB.

I haven’t called the hotel to reduce my original booking.. I figure I could do that on their website and keep the original price I think..

I figure I would do that a couple days before my stay (my stay is from Jan 5-8) so figure I would call on Jan 2nd…

nice. exactly. you have plenty of time. love hotel cancellation policies. very generous.

Cancellation Policy: If you wish to cancel, please do so 24 hours prior to arrival to avoid cancellation penalties.

Thats awesome.

but I HATE airline cancellation policies because essentially you CANT without status or losing money or pts or voodoo magic etc.

i think you will be fine and can strategize accordingly until jan. make sure you have a calendar reminder and constantly check for new rates then you can call later. you may even end up just rebooking the entire thing. who knows right?

you can try changing the dates online, but when you call, its one in the backend so you may get better luck with rates or logistics and even making sure other bonuses track accordingly through your original reservation.

and you only have the CSP now but maybe you will get something else later.

good luck!

Make sure to load the best offers to the “best card” *first* if you’re loading it to multiple. I loaded the Hilton deal to my random cash back card first, then website froze for like 15 seconds and I was then unable to get the hilton offer on my Hilton card which Is the one I would really prefer to use.

I did like 5 offers to both cards and the only one that crapped out was the one I really wanted!

This works on a cash + points stay, correct?

Can you simply ask the front desk to charge your visa card $1 at checkout to trigger the 5k Hhonors points and then use an Amex for the rest?

yes. most likely its possible. its getting ridiculous with hilton. just like doc said in his post, ridic stacking. however, $1 is pushing it. I always do something like $50 to make it reasonable and if it doesnt track, you get eyes on your account, then its downhill so charge something where you can argue later. no min spend noted though so YMMV. also all amex offers stacked. this offer actually pissed me off because I couldve included this in my stay last week. one night stay for 5k pts? so easy.

just FYI. super helpful if you are fully vested in HH CC from Amex and Citi since they are running promos everywhere to be stacked and Citi has a VISA w/ no FTF. pisses me off the surpass has FTF. give me a break. its like SPG when they had FTF.

Remember: 5,000 HH is worth maybe $20 or so. So compare carefully if you have the Amex $50 offer as well…

Of course this is good till the end of January and works at seemingly any Hilton hotel, including the sub-brands like Hampton and so forth.

Unlike Amex, there is no minimum spend for the 5,000 HH points Visa offer
