The Offer

Direct Link

One of the things Swagbucks offers is a shopping portal. It’s pretty similar to a cash back portal, except that the rewards come as ‘Swagbucks’ which can be redeemed for cash.

This week they are offering a Spring Boost and there are some solid rates there:

A few travel offers:

  • 16% for Marriott stays (compare)
  • 20% for Hotels.com completed stays – w/o Hotels.com rewards (compare)
  • Between 3% and 16% on Expedia (compare)

The Fine Print

  • Expiration unknown (I thought I saw something about this lasting a week, but can’t find that anymore)

Our Verdict

Lots of these rates are best or matching the best portal rate offer, and they are at some top retailers too. It’s especially worth noting since Swagbucks is not typically one the portals you give attention too in the list shown on the portal aggregation sites.

If you are signing up for a new Swagbucks account, I’d appreciate if you use my Swagbucks referral link. You’ll also get a $3 + 2 bonus at the end of the month if you earn 300 SB.

  • If anyone is a regular user of Swagbucks, they should have also received an offer (can be found under "My Swag Ups") to receive 1000 SB ($10) if they earn 25 SB through shopping. Should be some potential money-makers or close to free products out there to pair these increased offers to.

  • Not recommending their shopping portal (the Shop and Earn part mentioned in this post). They deactivated my account just for claiming untracked purchase.

  • I'm not sure if it still works, but swagbucks used to give SB for purchases of ebay gift cards (and using those ebay gift cards to purchase items) as well as purchases of other gift cards. They might have fixed that issue.

  • Unclear, but I think hotels.com 20x is only for hotels that aren't normally eligible for rewards.

    • The Swagbucks terms state that 20x is for "completed hotel stays without earning Hotels.com Rewards." They separately list 6x for "completed hotel stays earning Hotels.com Rewards." Based on that I think you'll get 6x if you book with your Hotels.com account and get Hotels.com rewards, or 20x if you don't do that.

      • I guess that makes sense. I note TCB has similar language but explicitly excludes GCs. "Please note; cash back is calculated on the value of the transaction after gift card redemption."

  • 20x at Hotels.com is pretty insane. Stack that with the Staples deal and you basically have 45x off

  • 20% at Hotels.com seems really good. I have a business trip booked through RocketMiles with a $210 Amazon GC and can rebook through Hotels.com via Swagbucks for about $300 cashback (Swagbucks allows cash redemptions through PayPal). My only concern is that I've historically had issues with Swagbucks failing to track, but for $300 cashback I think it's worth the potential hassle of having to file support tickets if there's a problem.

And before anyone gets irritated with this post - I'm already overloaded with hotel points/free nights and have more than I can possibly use, so cashback is far more useful to me these days :)
