The Offer

Targeted offer sent out via e-mail (subject line ‘<name>, earn a $350 bonus with Amex Savings’)

  • American Express is offering some cardholders an offer to open a new American Express Savings account and get a $350 bonus when you deposit at least $25,000 by O‌ctober 8, 2022 and hold the fund through January 6, 2023.

The Fine Print

  • This offer is only available to customers new to American Express Savings. This Offer is not available to (i) non-American Express Card Members, (ii) American Express Card Members who did not receive this email from American Express directly, or (iii) American Express Card Members who have been named as a primary or joint holder on an active American Express Savings Account (High Yield Savings, CD or IRA).
  • You, as the direct recipient of this email can only be eligible for 1 offer. The new High Yield Savings Account must be opened using the email address that directly received this email, and the recipient of this email must be named as the primary holder when opening the new account. In the event that more than one person shares the email address to which this email was delivered, the individual named in the body of the email will be treated as the recipient eligible for this offer. In the event multiple accounts are opened by the eligible recipient, the High Yield Savings Account with the highest balance will be eligible.
  • A cash bonus amount of $350 will be credited to your new account after you, as the primary account holder, deposit a total of $25,000 or more of new money (not transferred from an existing American Express Savings, checking or debit account) into a new American Express High Yield Savings Account by 11:59pm ET on O‌ctober 8, 2022. A “new” account for this purpose is an account that is opened on or after the date on which this email was sent by American Express. High Yield Savings Accounts that were active prior to the date on which this email was sent by American Express are not eligible for this offer.
  • At the time the bonus is credited, your account must be open, in good standing and not restricted to qualify. Your balance may decline after the 90-day holding period, but the account must remain open and in good standing.
  • All bank bonuses are taxable and you’ll receive a 1099 from American Express for this

Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

This account has no monthly fees to worry about

Early Account Termination Fee

No early termination fee is mentioned.

Our Verdict

This seems to have been sent out to a lot of people, but it’s targeted and not everyone got it. We’ve seen similar offers before from Amex, and this one is better than prior offers. Given Amex already offers a decent interest rate, the added  $350 on top makes this a nice deal.

Update History:

  • Update 2/1/23: Another round of this $350 bonus went out today. Funds must be deposited by M‌arch 3, 20‌23 and held through M‌ay 2, 20‌23. (ht San & ESIS)

  • If either one of you are curious @guest_1561537 @guest_2129530 @guest_2123407, i was targeted for this a couple weeks back, and i have changed the numbers and letters around, but this is very similar to how the targeted link would look like.

    https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/banking/personal/savings/apply/member/review-application?product=highYieldSavings&eep=86938&extlink=as%3B2025%3LEJAG_V1&mi_u=454183e129ef753d68bf55777f29f9a54945c66aa2e330edab63984ade853bb7&mhid=CTY1JLSA&mi_name=JOHNDOE&cell_id=B0000JP03C

When you open the targeted e-mail, There is definitely a banner stating the 400 bonus offer and you need to click 'Open an account today' inside the banner, then Amex tells you to sign on with your username and password and then the offer will have the terms and the bonus on the left side.

I may or may not do this one because I'm juggling other things right now. But it does seem to me that Amex has been upping their bonus game in general nowadays? I was offered the 50k MR on 6k spend on the blue business plus that i took a couple weeks ago as well.
So it seems like they are trying to pull a-lot of customers in.

Let's see. If i can somehow get the 500 offer, i will probably jump on it but that would probably require me to refresh the Amex app every 30 mins of the hour for many many days until something comes up 🤣

    • Thanks! Got no luck with app, tried different browsers, different devices. Eventually firefox with complete data reset, followed by a system restart worked to see the pop up after I logged in. Tried the browser reset without a system restart, it didn't work either.

  • Anyone know how long pulls/pushes to this might usually take? I have 15k tied up in the Chase savings offer and I need to hold there until 10/5. I plan to open the Amex Savings on 9/12, so 30 days to get my 25k in would be 10/12 at the latest. That gives me 5 business days to do the transfer for that 15k. Just hoping I can get the funds over before those 5 days are up.

  • I logged into my AED a little while ago and was surprised when a pop-up appeared. It was for the $500 targeted offer mentioned in this post. I wasn't really ready to sign up today and I saw in the terms that I have until 9.13.25 to apply so I decided to exit. Before doing so, I copied the URL for the offer.

I then logged out of my ED account and logged right back in. Like I had feared, the offer didn't appear. While logged in, I then pasted the URL that I had copied before into a different tab of my browser and the offer displayed again.

Therefore, if you aren't ready to sign up immediately when you receive the targeted offer, make sure to copy the URL like I did as the offer may not appear again when you login, which could leave you out of luck.

This seems like a fantastic offer so I will almost certainly apply before the deadline.

    • Eric, I had also ran tests on this offer appearance. I found that when I cleared the browser cache, closed it, opened it again the offer banner reappeared. If I simply closed the browser without clearing the cache the offer banner did not reappear.

By the way if you are personally targeted for this bonus offer it is also listed and shown in the Amex cc offer section towards the bottom of the page. Make sure you copy the steps required in the offer. Per the CSR an email confirming enrollment along with steps to get the offer was sent out, but I never got it. She was unable to resend that email, but she did confirm I was enrolled in the offer.

      • Hi, can you please confirm if you opened the account and asked if you are enrolled for the offer or did you get a confirmation before opening an account? Also how did you reach the right department?

I tried reaching customer care several times, and every time they denied any ability to see if I'm enrolled. I don't want to waste an opportunity of signing up for one.

        • I called the CSR on the bank side of the amex business not the CC side of the business, and she did confirm that the $500 bonus offer is tied to my savings account. Yes the savings account is open and fully funded. I never got a confirmation email nor the instructions for the bonus so the reason I called before sending the $25k over to amex. I called this number: 1-800-446-6307
I advice you to take screen shots of the offer popup, and all relevant info related to the offer just in case.

Terms and Conditions†This offer is only available to the direct recipient of this offer who does not have an American Express® High Yield Savings Account ("HYSA") and is applying for your first HYSA account through the link in this advertisement.
After you have completed all offer requirements, the cash bonus, detailed below, will be credited to your HYSA within 8-12 weeks after the end of the Holding Period.
You, as the direct recipient of this offer, are only eligible for one (1) bonus offer. The new HYSA must be opened by you using the link in this advertisement. If you open a joint account, you must be named as the primary or first named owner of the new HYSA. You must be the named recipient of this offer. This offer is not transferable. The bonus offer is only available for one (1) new HYSA opened by the eligible recipient. If multiple accounts are opened by the eligible recipient, only the first HYSA opened during the offer period will be eligible to participate in the bonus offer.
To earn the cash bonus of $500, you must:

          1. Apply for a new HYSA account by 11:59 pm ET on 09/13/2025.
          2. A "new" account is an account for which you submit a completed application within the offer period and is subsequently approved by American Express during or after the offer period;
          3. Customers must apply using the credentials attached to the Card listed in the targeted offer
          4. Have one or more deposit(s) totaling at least $25,000 ("Threshold Amount") that are posted (see below) to your new HYSA by 11:59 pm ET within the first 30 days of account opening.
          5. Only posted transactions (credited and shown in Available balance) will count towards your Threshold Amount. Please keep in mind that linking your external bank account to fund deposits to your HYSA can take up to two (2) business days. After your external bank account is linked to your new HYSA, transfers may experience a "Hold" period of five days until funds become "Available", but the exact timing is dependent upon your external bank's processing time
          6. Other methods of depositing funds may result in longer hold times. Please consult the American Express National Bank Consumer Deposit Account Agreement and Savings Schedules for specific funds availability timing.
          7. The direct recipient must maintain the Threshold Amount, in available balance, every day, for a period of 60 days ("Holding Period").
          8. The Holding Period begins on the day funding requirements are successfully met;
          9. If, at the end of any business day (11:59 pm ET) during the Holding Period, the available balance in the HYSA is below the Threshold Amount, the HYSA will no longer be eligible for the cash bonus;
          10. Your HYSA must remain open and be in good standing until we award you your welcome bonus. If your HYSA account is closed prior to such time, you will not be eligible for the welcome bonus;
          11. If we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated the Deposit Account Agreement and Savings Schedule or have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with your account, we may determine that you are not eligible for the bonus. In such circumstance, we may rescind or decline to award you the bonus.

Your bonus may be taxable income to you and may be reported on IRS Form 1099. You are responsible for any federal or state taxes resulting from the bonus.

          • Thank you for the details, that does make sense. CSR can only confirm if an offer is enrolled on the account opened. They cannot see or confirm if an offer is applicable to an user before they open an account.

      • Your reply is interesting on 2 fronts.

#1. Both yesterday and today, I checked the "Amex Offers" section and the $500 offer was not there. Isn't it odd that it showed there for you but not for me?

#2. After I logged in just now, the pop-up for the $500 offer appeared again. Note that I didn't clear my cache or anything else. It's good to know that it appeared again. I again bypassed it as I'm not ready to sign up yet. 😉

      • Ever if you're to get the targeted link, it won't work. Tried and tested between household members.

        • Yes, I figured that it works like that. That's how Amex NLL offers work - if you're targeted the NLL link will bring up the offer, if you're not it won't. The reason I asked for a link is because with NLL offers at least, sometimes it turns out that I am targeted despite not having received an email or an offer appearing in my online account. I thought the same might happen here though sounds like it is unlikely based on DPs. And I understand if no one wants to share their link.

        • I figured that would be the case based on the terms and how strict that Amex usually is. What was the error that the non-targeted person received and at what part of the process did it appear?

          • You would not see the bonus banner on the page, will see a regular savings account page. Bonus banner would only appear when a targeted person logs into their AMEX login.

          • Just tried clicking link from email which takes you directly to the application page...

            Targeted User:
            Earn a $400 Cash Bonus!

            • Open your first High Yield Savings Account by 09/13/2025.
            • Deposit a minimum of $25,000 within 30 days of opening the account.
            • Hold at least $25,000 in the account for 60 days.

Exact targeted link, but non-targeted card holder:

            • We're sorry. We are unable to provide you with the offer in the email at this time.
            • But you're still invited to apply for an American Express High Yield Savings Account.
          • Would you mind sharing the link or atleast the format? There is another user @guest_2124320 shared his/her link, and it is https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/banking/online-savings/high-yield-savings-account/?eep=82571. Can you please confirm if the last 5 digits are the same or different in your case?

@guest_2129163 If you have access to your link, please confirm if the link is similar or any different.

I never received the email, and since the pop up said I can open anytime before 09/31, I thought I would do later. Now I cannot retrieve it anywhere

          • @guest_2123407,

            #1. The deadline is "9/13", not "9/31", which doesn't exist. 😉

#2. When did you 1st see that pop-up? See #2 in my reply to @guest_2127419 here: #2129674. Keep on trying and the offer will likely appear again at some point.

#3. If/when it does, make sure to copy the URL like I stated in my initial DP. Also, do print screens for everything like I did.

          • Thanks @guest_2129163. And good catch on the numbers; my brain got to the keyboard before my fingers could.

And I'm finally able to get the offer, and went ahead with the application this time.

Tried different browsers, different devices. Eventually firefox with complete data reset, followed by a system restart worked to see the pop up after I logged in. Tried the browser reset without a system restart, it didn't work either.

          • I'm glad that you were able to get the offer. I hope that you took my suggestion to do a bunch of print screens.

I might just use your Firefox tip if I don't see the pop-up in Chrome. I will only use my saved URL as a last resort.

          • @guest_2123407,

My link is much longer and the EEP # (whatever that stands for) is completely different. That confirms that each link is personally targeted, which is what I figured.

Hopefully, the RAT doesn't catch @guest_2124320 sharing their link!

      • I posted my DP to try to help others that were or will targeted and are not able to sign up immediately.

Are you really asking me to post my long targeted link when the RAT could be lurking?

  • Fast payout, here is my DP:

6/13 Opened, funded $75 from existing BoA link, credited immediately (friday)
6/16 $75 debited from BoA (monday)
6/17 Added Fidelity CMA with test deposits
6/18 Verified and pulled from Fido to reach 25k, credited immediately (wed)
6/20 Funds debited from Fido (fri, due to Juneteenth)
~6/25 Hold on 25k expires, don't remember exact date
7/13 $63 interest confirms weekend/holiday double dip and holds ignored for interest

8/25 $500 Promotional Bonus credited sometime after 5:30pm, ~61 days after hold expiration

    A++++, would recommend!

Pro tips: Their cutoff for initiating an ACH pull is 7pm ET if you want it credited that day. Funds don't get withdrawn until next business day. However, their disclosures say they can do same-day ACH if you schedule early enough, so I did both the initial fund and pull around 4pm to avoid that.

    • Nice job JD. I just started my process yesterday for the $500 bonus offer. The current balance shows $25k, earning interest and available shows $0. I had amex pull from external f.i. since I had maxed out all links at that f.i. Per amex funds should be available in 5 days. I did not pay attention to the cutoff times so maybe the transfer speed could of been faster. I planned for this process to take about 70 days to complete as I'm not in any kind of hurry.

  • the 60 day deposit timeline starts from the day you deposit the 25k or is it 60 days from account opening?

    • Neither, it starts from the day the 25k become available:

"Only posted transactions (credited and shown in Available balance) will count towards your Threshold Amount."

  • I currently have Checking account with Amex. If I open this savings account, will there be Chex pull or EWS pull? thanks.

  • Thinking of jumping on this offer and making AmEx HYSA my hub account for bank bonuses. Does anyone know if there is a limit on how many external accounts you can link?

  • Might have overlooked it somewhere, but does anyone know if there is any notification or a tracker of some sort confirming account is actually enrolled into the bonus offer once it has been open?

    • Per the CSR an email confirming enrollment along with steps to get the offer was sent out, but I never received it. She was unable to resend that email, but she did confirm I was enrolled in the offer. You may want to call them to find out if you are enrolled. Even after making the deposit I have not received any notices. If you look in the amex offers section you will see the offer listed.

      • Would you mind sharing which rep (HYSA, credit, checking?) you reached?
I suppose you called to confirm if you are enrolled after you signed up for an account?

I'm on the same boat; never received the email, and since the pop up said I can open anytime before 09/31, I thought I would do later.

Now CSR cannot spill any details, and says test your luck either by randomly logging in or change device/browser. They cannot confirm if I have the offer on my profile (creditcards, checking), they can only say if I have the offer after I sign up for a HYSA account. I don't want to toss a coin at the moment.

        Thanks!

      • I also haven't received an email about the offer. BTW, I took print screens of everything yesterday so don't worry about me forgetting any of the steps. 😉

      • Thanks. I saw it being there at least initially during the application process. Wasn't sure if any confirmation or notification of being enrolled or having deposited enough would come after the account was opened.

  • Beware that American Express can freeze your account after you successfully link external account for additional account verification. American Express asked me to submit the bank statement of the linked account. The fund transfer was reversed. I am not sure if this will hurt my chexsystems score. Damn American Express.

      • They can ask you during the linking process, but it is very bad practice to ask after they let you linked the account then frozen your account. American Express need to be deported.

        • You're 100% incorrect. As a regulated bank, they have an algorithm that obligates them to do additional checks when various flags are tripped, and at random.

  • Is this Churnable? I already have both C&S with Amex, should i close and reopen?Anyone had success with this?

    • checking isn't, and like you im too lazy to read the T&C, but this probably isn't churnable either
