Which Online Retailers Earn 3% with American Express Blue Cash Everyday Card?

American Express updated last year their no-fee Blue Cash Everyday card to offer 3% cashback on “U.S. Online Retailer purchases”, up to $6,000 per calendar year.

Please contribute any data points you have in the comments below on what counts to earn 3% cashback. • I have a weird DP. Buying single card on GCX counted as 3% online, but buying multiple cards on for same retailer did not. so 1 transaction and 1 card === 3%, 1 transaction multiple cards not 3%??? confusing.

Cardcash did not count as 3%

  • Spa & sauna store online invoice counted as 3% back

Has anyone tried venmo business transactions (where you elect it as a purchase for buyer protection)?

  • Giftcards.com paid via Paypal gives 3% back. Have purchased both closed-loop cards and giftcards.com's own-brand giftcard successfully.

I'm not brave enough to find out whether Paypal passes enough data for Amex to determine an open-loop Visa/MC was bought on this site... :) Have stuck to other 2% cards for those purchases.

  • Ordered at Walmart.com and did an in-store pickup on a clothing item, received 0% back. Inquired with Amex chat and did not get a sensible answer. Will try chatting again but it may be wise to avoid pickup orders at Walmart.

        • I think the real answer is that reward dollars may calculate slowly (slower than Amex offers!) and that transactions may be processed out of order. Going back through my account I see every transaction earned at least 1% in reward dollars except for the Amex gift cards I bought.
