Our Verdict
The current public offer is also for up to 120,000 points, that is broken down as follows:
- Earn 50,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership.
- Earn an additional 25,000 Avios after spending $10,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership.
- Earn a total of 75,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership AND a total of $10,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership. (85,000 Avios counting the 10,000 Avios from spending.)
- Earn an additional 25,000 Avios after spending $20,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership.
- Earn a total of 100,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership AND a total of $20,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership. (120,000 Avios counting the 20,000 Avios from spending.)
I think that’s a much strong offer because if you only end up spending $3,000 you’ll still get 50,000 points, whereas with this offer you’d only get 12,000 points. In fact the other offer is stronger at every level (e.g at $10,000 spend you’d be getting 75,000 points with the other offer and only 40,000 points with this offer. If you spend $20,000 with the other offer you’d get the 120,000 points whereas you’d need to spend $30,000 with this offer). We also recently saw a targeted bonus of up to 100,000 Avios + $200 statement credit. I’m really on posting this as some blogs with affiliate links are pushing this offer and I want our readers to know it’s a bad deal.

I can't find any. Moreover, there is a 10% discount offer for BA and IBERIA with this 120K offer on BA website. Doesn't show up if you go directly to chase.com

These 120K offers are terrible because the bonus is considered throughout the span of 12 months from the date of approval as it is 4X per $ spent.

Points is very confusing and the public offer is only for 100,000 points

No. The public offer is 100k points after $20k spend, but you also earn a minimum of 1x point per $1 spent. So that offer ends up being spend $20k, get 120k total points. Whereas this requires 30k in spend for the same amount of points.

The companion ticket IMHO is a pretty useless part of the deal. The egregious fuel surcharges on BA is x2 when using it so its a bad deal. The new "offer" is benefiting affiliates. Why spend 30k when you can spend 20k for the same 120k.
I think with the $30,000 spend, one receives the companion pass as well.

Yup. The companion ticket is 1x use for a domestic (US) mainline BA flight for the same cabin you book. Even flying BA F won't get you nearly the same value as just spending on the public offer that @will mentioned.
If only there was a typo that didn't include "first year"...a 4 avios / 1 dollar spent would've been a fantastic keeper card. Too bad, spend requirements like these with multiple levels are becoming way to common these days.

Are there definitive DPs that 5/24 does apply to all these cards? I know with Marriott Biz it was assumed but nobody tried until this week.
Good question. I’ll ask it again - how do we know that 5/24 applies when we don’t have DPs for the Aer Lingus card? Also, we have 1 DP on the Iberia card, which could certainly be a false negative. I’m going to wait a month after my Marriott biz approval. Anyone willing to be brave?

Thankfully, I saw the writing on the wall and applied/approved for the IHG Premier, Hyatt, and British Airways cards back in August.
When did this card become part of the 5/24 rule? I got this card for 100k avios and closed back in April 2017 and thinking of applying againin April/may 2019
Few months back, 5/24 got expanded to basically every other card chase issues if I recall correctly. Hyatt and a few other good ones are now subject to it as well.
