The offer

No direct link to offer, try doing a dummy booking to get the offer to show. Some people have also received an e-mail

  • Chase has increased the sign up bonus on the British Airways card. You can earn up to 100,000 Avios broken down as follows:
    • Earn 50,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership.
    • Earn an additional 25,000 Avios after spending $10,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership.
      • Earn a total of 75,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership AND a total of $10,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership. (85,000 Avios counting the 10,000 Avios from spending.)
    • Earn an additional 25,000 Avios after spending $20,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership.
      • Earn a total of 100,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership AND a total of $20,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership. (120,000 Avios counting the 20,000 Avios from spending.)
  • You can also get a $200 statement credit when you book a British Airways flight on ba.com within 12 months of account opening

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $95 not waived
  • Chase’s 5/24 rule does not apply to this card.
  • Earns 3 Avios per $ on British Airways purchases
  • Earns 1 Avios per $ on all other purchases
  • As a general rule, Chase does match offers.

Our Verdict

Standard offer is the 100,000 points, the $200 statement credit is new. In terms of the $200 statement credit, it’s not clear if you actually need to fly the flight you booked or if booking the cheapest seat you can find will trigger the offer even if you no show. Chase also issues the Iberia & Aer Lingus cards, I wonder if they have similar offers as well? Even if you just did the 50,000 points + $200 deal I think this is a strong offer if you can no show, might be slightly more difficult to find a cheap flight you need if you can’t no show. I’ll be adding this to our best credit card bonuses post. If anybody finds a working link, please share it in the comments below. If you’re considering applying for this card, you’ll first want to read about these things everybody should know about Chase credit cards.

I got a targeted with an email for this offer from BA Executive Club but am really unsure of the utility of BA Avios. In the process of moving to Toronto from the US so the fees and surcharges of BA Award tickets are a real turnoff.

Nicholas

If you plan on traveling internationally at all and want to hop around, BA Avios are very handy for getting from place to place. We used BA Avios for HND – HKG and HKG – KIX on JL and CX, respectively. In addition, I used BA Avios to book our flights around Australia (SYD – BNE – CNS – MEL) on QF.

yeah, thanks. i think we’re saving up for a flight to the UK but unfortunately doesnt seem to make sense.

Move it to Iberia? I agree BA Avios stink but Iberia is pretty useful.

I miss the old days. 100,000 points with $3000 spend. My first points travel ever was in 2012 flying AA using BA points. Just two signup bonuses got my family of five to Hawaii from Milwaukee. Seemed to good to be true at the time. I wondered why everyone wasn’t doing it!?

Many did, but back in the 90’s a lot of these forums and blogs did not exist or were unknown to us. We’ve been in the points hobby a long time and learned it on our own without the internet. It wasn’t 100k bonus back when I started, but didn’t need that much either and the fuel charges were next to nothing and back in the day just a small fee. Now, many of us have turned to cards that allow you to use points to buy a ticket instead of award seats. But, we still find awards useful depending on where we want to go and if we can get in better seats.

I also received the offer email after recently signing up for the British Airways Executive Club but not sure if I would risk being on Chase “hit list” .

I didn’t get this offer with a dummy booking.

this offer also comes with complimentary chase shutdown…

Why do you say that? I applied less than 3 months ago and thinking of asking for a match. Actually may have purchases on BA to do.

I got this offer via email. Does it mean I am pre-qualified or some way I have higher chance of approval. Appreciate any help!

Chase’s 5/24 rule does not apply to this card. ??? is it?

I have a hard time imagining that they would claw back if you no-showed the flight. I doubt systems are tied for that to happen. Looks like you could book a London-Dublin one way for about $75 US, so profit $125.

I got this email last night. I don’t have any immediate plans to fly ba, and no immediate use for avios, so I’ll pass. The chase hyatt and IHG cards are in my sights.

Too bad Avios are completely worthless. I don’t understand the point of having a frequent flyer program that to book a reward flight has fees as much as the cost of a ticket.

They’re awesome for traveling in Europe and Australia. As well, going from California to Hawaii.
