Got it on my personal platinum
I got it on nearly all of my and P2-6 AU cards except the Hilton & Marriott cards. Good timing too, as I have a work trip (where I get to use my own card) next week at a Holiday Inn for 3 nights.

Any ideas if it works to buy gift card in person?
I am pretty sure it works 100%. I used to do it for Marriott gift cards all the time but unfortunately never managed to find any IHG properties that sell gift cards.
