Our Verdict

This is the best signup bonus offer we’ve seen on the personal Chase Southwest cards. The best we’ve seen in the past was 85,000.

This offer is also available via referral links. The old referral links show ‘offer not available’ and reroute to the new offer. I’m not certain that referrals track in that case, let us know if you have experience. Regardless, you can likely generate a new referral link and that should work cleanly. I like the long five months to meet the spend requirement. This makes it easier, and can also potentially help for timing the Southwest Companion Pass.

We’ll add this eventually to our list of Best Credit Card Signup Bonuses. Before applying, check out these 26 Things Everybody Should Know About Chase Credit Cards.

  • Both P1 and P2 currently have business version applied last year. Its up for renewal in sep and planning to cancel. Planning to apply the 100K personal in Sep. Is it possible to refer each other and get referral? Is there a way to time it so that it can be counted for companion pass for 26/27?

  • I applied for the card approximately two weeks ago, offering a 40K bonus. I had messaged them about matching the new offer, but they rejected it. I was under the impression that they would match within a month! Any advice?

  • Really hoping a new bonus comes out on business cards. I have no interest in spending ~ $25k . So it looks like it's business + personal unless something changes.

    • Can you get a referral? Assuming you are talking about getting CP with this bonus, I would assume you have a P2 (unless its your child). Should be relatively easy to convince people to open one of these with the highest ever SUB despite the increased fees.

  • Any data points for how long to wait to apply for a new SWA card after closing an old one?

    • A month is best when you can afford the wait. Some have done new card applications much sooner after closing a card, as long as it has been over 24 months from the last bonus.

  • Sitting at 4/24, P2 at 3/24. Wondering if I should rip the business card and personal card same day on 9/1, or have P2 do a personal card on 9/1 and wait for a potential elevated bonus on the biz card later. Thoughts?

    • Have P2 open a personal for the 100,000 to be earned in 2026, then have P2 refer P1 to either of the business cards after their December statement for the 20,000 referral points. This will put P2 within 1,000 points of earning the pass, and P1 will also be half way there.

  • I have a companion pass this year but need a new one for next year. Could I apply for this around 9/1 but not hit the $4k spend until January to get the 100k miles in 2026 for a new companion pass? Thoughts?

    • Since the offer has a 5 month spend window you could do it anytime after Aug 1 and meet the required spend after the December statement and meet the spend within 5 months, and get the points issued in January. You could actually open today, and make sure the statement close is early in the month and meet the spend after the December statement (5 months from today is December 24).

    • In theory, but no guarantee it will be around 9/1. Also, would still need more to hit companion.

  • Here's how this goes down:

    1. Chase buys billions of points from Southwest to use as credit card rewards.
    2. Southwest gets massive cash boost from the increase in points sale.
    3. Once the card quotas are met Southwest announces a point devaluation to preserve the cash boost.

Even with that said, 100K points with a free check bag for $99 is pretty good even if the long-term value of those points likely headed to 1 cpp.

  • Anyone have any good ideas on how to meet the final 31K points to get the Companion Pass without getting the business card?

    • 10,000 of it is earned through the annual boost from holding the card. For the other 21,000, do a combination of additional credit card spend, Southwest hotels, surveys, shopping portal, Southwest dining, etc.

    • 10k of the 135k CP qualifying points would be covered having the card. So you would have 100k + 4k + 10k = 114K; you then only need an additional 21k.

I have done a mattress run on Southwest Hotels before to hit CP. Booked a room for sub $150 and got something like 9k points. Shopping portal could be helpful if you are making purchases at stores that have bonuses (I never do, so moot point for me).

As another mentioned, the best is really CC referral. If you can do one referral then you are only 1k short of CP.

    • Refer 2 people to the card and that's 40K points. Or refer one person and spend 11 K
