I wouldn't compare it that way, since you can't use miles to buy anything you want. It's more like the old-time company scrip. You live in a mining town and get paid with tokens that are only good in the town store.
My partner is from another first world country and in their country.. they apply online and normal processing they receive their new passport in the mail in 3 business days.. the total cost is about $30 USD.
When my U.S passport got destroyed earlier this year accidentally and i need a replacement.. I had to spend $150.. drive 100 miles to another town that had a USPS with an available appointment time.. pay an extra $80 expedited fee.. and then wait almost 3 months to receive the new passport in the mail. It's a disgrace.
Wonder if they still use abacuses for counting.. luddites.

So who is going to be the first issuer to offer a passport credit every 10 years, now that you can presumably use a credit card to renew it?
