The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Spend $500 or more at The Peninsula Hotels (US, Paris, Tokyo) and get $100 back (or 10,000 Membership Rewards points depending on your offer)

The Fine Print

  • Room rate and room charges only
  • Valid until 11/30/19
  • Must be booked at Peninsula.com or 866-382-8388

Our Verdict

This is valid at the following properties:

  • Peninsula New York
  • Peninsula Chicago
  • Peninsula Beverly Hills
  • Peninsula Tokyo
  • Peninsula Paris

Good deal if you wanted to stay at one of these properties anyway, but not a big enough of a discount to get me to change my booking habits.

  • Slightly off topic, but has DoC ever thought about creating a sticky post that tracks commenters' latest airfare/hotel real redemption results for Amex MR points, Chase UR points, etc.? I think we would all love to have a reference to consult for realistic current values.

    • One issue with this is that people won’t be honest, even if they think they are.

What I mean is that the cash price of a flight/hotel varies quite a bit, depending on many things but also how far in advance you book. I myself cancel bookings with points if I notice that the cash price decreased below my target cpp. But I fear people will want to show off their cpps by using some incredibly inflated cash price.

    • Hrm. A nice database separated into: cheap as possible, normal vacation, or luxury could help assign proper points values. This sounds like a neat idea.

      • Or it could be as simple as "Jul 2019/55,000 MR points/$1750 cash price/UA/PremEcon/ORD-FRA RT." DoC could create some kind of template to standardize the reporting.
I'm tired of hearing affiliate bloggers say "I value these points at (so many) cpp." Show us some proof, huh?
DoC could become the definitive go-to authority on points values.

  • I got this on many Amex cards.

In addition I got via USPS mail spend: $50, then earn 20% extra points/2000 max on local bank Elan (US Bank) Amex, Aug 1 to Sept 30. Easy sign up via phone automated system
