Chase has a lot of great credit card offers, the problem is the dreaded 5/24 rule. One of the easiest ways to bypass this rule is by checking for pre-approvals in the branch. It’s widely known that these pre-approvals show up on Chase branded personal (e.g Chase Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Chase Sapphire Preferred & Chase Sapphire Reserve) & Chase branded business cards (e.g Chase Ink Preferred & Chase Ink Cash).
What a lot of people don’t see to realize is that in branch you can also be pre-approved for the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer (55,000 miles + $50 statement credit offer) Chase United MileagePlus Club (no sign up bonus). I wonder if you’re approved for the explorer if it’s possible to get matched to the better online offers of 70,000 miles + $50.

Was pre approved for chase sapphire preferred. This is my second CSP. Had closed previous one in March 2015. Applied in branch on 23rd Sept, application went to pending status. When I am calling to check the status, chase is telling that we will send the decision in 30 days. What this mean ? Is it a sugar coated denial 😀 ?
Last week I was in Chase signing up for hte checking/savings bonus and asked about pre-approval. Was told that I was "eligible" for United Mileage Plus, a card I've had fairly recently. I had just applied and was denied for that card Feb 1 (I guess I miscounted for the 5/24). Anyway, got the card, called and confirmed that I would receive the 50k + 5k for $2000 spend.
My records kinda suck with credit card bonuses, but I'm reasonably certain that I got that 50K bonus within the last two years. (My spreadsheet has data when I cancelled but not when I received the bonus... so I'm not sure.)
When I visited a branch, the CSR mentioned that only chase branded cards (not the United) would show up as pre-approval. Is there anything they may need to do differently on their end to make this happen, or do I just ask them to tell me what I'm pre-approved for?
They're wrong, because both myself and my wife both had United pre-approvals when we checked in branch last time.
"...In Branch Pre-Approvals..."
Why would you hyphenate "Pre-Approvals" and not do the same for "In Branch"? *smh*
People are here for the miles and points tips, not for the English grammar lesson. Does it really matter?
DP: Today I applied in branch for a chase 350 checking/savings promo. Was told by rep i'm pre approved for 50k for 2k spend. Im waaaay past 5/24 but decided to apply. will come back with dp.
I had pre-approvals for CSP, FU and Freedom in branch in March, went for the better-than-usual $300 FU offer. I'm not CPC, squeezed CSR in back in Dec (only 4 months ago) when I was at 4/24. Moved far past that since (probably 17/24).
However despite being constantly targeted by United for the 70K offer I've never seen it in branch. All the Chase bankers have said that they only pre-approve Chase branded cards. For those of you who sees the United pre-approval in Chase branch, does it show under the same scroll list as the Chase branded cards?
William, thanks for the refresher on pre-approvals.
Do you know what triggers Chase to give a pre-approval for a Chase customer?
Does the Chase marketing dept. have a magical formula based on spending habits and credit limit allocation?
not sure on the specifics, having a deposit account might help as might not having being approved for a Chase branded card in last 6 months.
If I am at 3/24 and I am pre-approved for a Chase card in branch and apply for it, will I become 4/24? I get that these preapprovals in branch let you bypass 5/24 but do they count against 5/24?
Chase counts opened personal cards, and it doesn't matter how or where you applied. A card account is a card account.
Recently, I opened up chase checking account amd after the procees it showed that I am preapproved for CSP. Banker asked me if I want to apply for it. I declined, as I have more than 5 cards in last 24 months. One more reason to not apply was that chase online preapproval tool doesn't show any card for me.
Same for me, except I applied and was approved for the CSP. I'm way over 5/24. The in branch pre-approvals bypass 5/24.
"I wonder if you’re approved for the explorer if it’s possible to get matched to the better online offers of 70,000 miles + $50."
i would like to know this too... 20k is too big a difference
