Did You Know Chase In Branch Pre-Approvals Show United Cards?

Chase has a lot of great credit card offers, the problem is the dreaded 5/24 rule. One of the easiest ways to bypass this rule is by checking for pre-approvals in the branch. It’s widely known that these pre-approvals show up on Chase branded personal (e.g Chase Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Chase Sapphire Preferred & Chase Sapphire Reserve) & Chase branded business cards (e.g Chase Ink Preferred & Chase Ink Cash).

What a lot of people don’t see to realize is that in branch you can also be pre-approved for the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer (55,000 miles + $50 statement credit offer) Chase United MileagePlus Club (no sign up bonus). I wonder if you’re approved for the explorer if it’s possible to get matched to the better online offers of 70,000 miles + $50.

does preapproval bypass the 1 bonus per 24 month rule?

Chuck

No, I don’t think so

Tim

it doesn’t according to several reddit Data points that I have seen.

hi,
what is this “1 bonus per 24 month” rule? was it explained at DoC or elsewhere?

Are you new? Chase imposed the “1 bonus per 24 months” language a long time ago. Kind of like Citi’s “1 per 24 months” and Amex’s “1 per lifetime” rules.

Do in-branch pre-approvals show the Marriott card? If not, how can one get around 5/24 to get that card?

This. Any DP?

I haven’t heard of Marriott cards showing up for pre-approval. However, there are many people who have been able to get the Marriott Business card despite being over 5/24, so I’d suggest applying for the business version instead of the personal card. It carries a slightly larger annual fee ($99 vs. $85), but also has some additional 2x bonus categories (office supply stores and cable/internet/phone).

Have there been any data points as to whether the online “Offers” pre-approval section of the Chase site shows United cards as well, or are those pre-approvals strictly Chase branded cards only?

I just got an online pre-approval for the MPE (green tick, ‘selected for you’). It was only the 40K offer but I’m over 5/24 so I applied anyway. I’m hoping I can match to the current 60K.

Last week I had UR, CSP, and both UA cards for me and I went with the CSP.

Hey Doc, I thought you couldn’t apply for the regular Freedom in branch anymore, only online

I see the United cards on the displays. Do you know if the business versions are available for pre approval?

I was offer that card in Feb when I applied to CSR.

“I wonder if you’re approved for the explorer if it’s possible to get matched to the better online offers of 70,000 miles + $50.”

Recently, I opened up chase checking account amd after the procees it showed that I am preapproved for CSP. Banker asked me if I want to apply for it. I declined, as I have more than 5 cards in last 24 months. One more reason to not apply was that chase online preapproval tool doesn’t show any card for me.

Ken

Same for me, except I applied and was approved for the CSP. I’m way over 5/24. The in branch pre-approvals bypass 5/24.

If I am at 3/24 and I am pre-approved for a Chase card in branch and apply for it, will I become 4/24? I get that these preapprovals in branch let you bypass 5/24 but do they count against 5/24?

Ken
Ken

Chase counts opened personal cards, and it doesn’t matter how or where you applied. A card account is a card account.

William, thanks for the refresher on pre-approvals.

Do you know what triggers Chase to give a pre-approval for a Chase customer?

Does the Chase marketing dept. have a magical formula based on spending habits and credit limit allocation?

I had pre-approvals for CSP, FU and Freedom in branch in March, went for the better-than-usual $300 FU offer. I’m not CPC, squeezed CSR in back in Dec (only 4 months ago) when I was at 4/24. Moved far past that since (probably 17/24).

However despite being constantly targeted by United for the 70K offer I’ve never seen it in branch. All the Chase bankers have said that they only pre-approve Chase branded cards. For those of you who sees the United pre-approval in Chase branch, does it show under the same scroll list as the Chase branded cards?

“…In Branch Pre-Approvals…”

Why would you hyphenate “Pre-Approvals” and not do the same for “In Branch”? *smh*

People are here for the miles and points tips, not for the English grammar lesson. Does it really matter?
