  • The travel ban does not affect transit passengers going through Japan (without leaving the airport terminal, I assume) on their way to another country, if the Japan Visitor Hotline operated by Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) at +81-50-3816-2787 understood me correctly. So one can still transit through a Japanese airport from one of the 70+ countries on the list.

  • Legitimate question as I'm clueless. How come these hotels don't have a 6-12 month emergency fund?

    • Because they're high on debt and want to pay their execs more and do stock buybacks to that end and also to reward investors. They're irresponsible, in short. Sure, they may invest some in their own properties or something. But that's no excuse. Do we have the same attitude toward individuals investing in their education? Heck no. They never get bailed out -- they take their debt to the grave.

  • Can you be born to African parents in Japan n at the same time be a Japan citizen? Serious question. Japan not friendly country. Remember Genghis Khan. Japan Warrior.

    • The Mongols tried 2 times to invade Japan and were wiped out by storms the first time and the kamikaze the second. It's a cool history story.

and to be helpful, answers can be found in wikipedia under the answer "Japanese nationality law"

  • Businesses that didn't save and budget and spent on stock buybacks should go under, as should those who provided inferior service. The jobs lost from one hotel chain will go to another, better, hotel chain, eventually. That's the free market. "Dynamism."

But no, if there's anything we've learned from this, it's that industry (not small businesses) are parasites and takers. Socialized losses, privatized gains. We bail them out. They keep the money. Every. Single. Time.

    • socialized losses + privatized gains = USA economics

apparently socialism is good when it benefits corporations

      .

    • I never really understood why stock buybacks were so popular. I understand the theory they they cause the stock price to rise and that capital gains are better than dividends in that they are taxed more favorably (which should end - IMO) but at least when you get the dividend you now have something tangible that you can use. I bet all the cheerleaders for stock buybacks are kicking themselves now and wishing that they had received dividends - instead of temporary stock gains that have just evaporated.

      • Buybacks raise stock prices on which executive compensation is based.

The theory was that if companies did well then the executives pay would be according.

    • In part women caused this. Can u say Angela Merkel....lol. Won't fo the right thing , it's her compass ion that's killing Wermany.

    • If it scares you so much I understand there is an operation that you can have.

    • "Most attempts to explain this discrepancy have focused primarily on behavior, some of which are almost certainly valid. Higher rates of tobacco consumption, a reluctance to seek proper and timely medical care and even lower rates of hand-washing absolutely do play a role in who will be hit hardest."

Sounds like we can start by making 'em change their behaviors to act more like women

"And our sex chromosomes by and large determine our sex hormones — which also give her an advantage: Higher levels of testosterone appear to suppress the immune system; conversely, estrogens have been found to stimulate a more vigorous immunological response."

and try giving them doses of estrogen.

Are you going to volunteer for these studies?

"The current practice of medicine was built using research that was done primarily on male cells, male tissues, male organs, male animals and male test subjects. As a result, we tend to know more about men when it comes to the determinants of health and well-being. With a few exceptions, such as gynecological and obstetric issues, we tend to clinically treat women just like we treat men. As a result, our comprehension of the staggering medical impact stemming from the differences between the sexes is only in its infancy.
But the understanding of these differences has the potential to fill in the gaps of knowledge that have kept us from making medical breakthroughs. Our male-centric, one-size-fits-all model of health care and the research culture that stems from it need to change."

We should study men more! … wait, this suggests the opposite?!

  • FYI total US personal income tax is $1.9tn and the 1% paid 37% of that. You could have eliminated income tax on 99% of the population AND given everyone a check for $3,000 AND saved money off the $2.2tn bailout (yes, it was a $2.2tn bailout, the news rounded off $200bn)

But instead we gave billions to corporations. We also gave $75m to the JFK museum who promptly laid off their whole workforce and then gave $5m to the DNC

But yeah, screw those millennials for wanting help with loans

    • It wasn't the JFK Museum, it was the Kennedy Center in DC. From Snopes:

"Furthermore, the Center did indeed furlough workers, including orchestral musicians, even after learning it would receive $25 million from the U.S. Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that President Donald Trump signed into law on March 27, 2020. However, the Center, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, did not then donate $5 million of relief funds to the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Under U.S. tax law, 501(c)3 organizations are legally prohibited from making political contributions. A spokeswoman for the Center confirmed to us that the organization made no contribution to the DNC and said the Center “has never donated money to a political organization.”

    • That's how trickle-down works.

Government trusts multi-billion corporations more than the average person.
