Our Verdict

As always make sure you compare gas prices to ensure you’re actually getting a good deal. Whenever we post these types of discounts inevitably people say that Chevron/Texaco is much more expensive than others in their area, this depends a bit on your area so just make sure to do your own research.

  • Hi All,

    Just wondering which Amex cards get most of these targeted offer? I understand that it may be based on spend or spend activities but if anyone can suggest any card from the given below for Amex?targeted offers

    1) Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card
    2) Blue Cash Preferred® Card
    3) Gold Delta Skymiles

  • Damn, I buy my beer at my local Chevron since its cheaper than at Walmart. Wish this wasn't limited to pay at the pump.

  • Chevron --> $3.19/gal
    Costco --> $2.79/gal

    .40 difference (14%)

    Citi Costco card --> 4% CB

    Opportunity cost for me is 18%, time invested (add the offer, bring the card) and logistics (I shop Costco). For me personally it's an easy pass, but like you said, it's YMMV and depends on your area.

  • On BCP this is a net 12.7% back (assuming no cashback on the statement credit). Comparing to a 5% card:
    (100% - 5%) / (100% - 12.7%) = 1.088

    So if Chevron's price is less than 8.8% higher than the best station's, this is worth using. If it's more, ignore.
