- Amazon Rented 330k Hotel Rooms In Seattle Last Year by Monkey Miles. They must be getting some deep discounts on those rooms. I’m kind of surprised they don’t just build something out themselves at that volume, but I guess it’s not a steady stream of rooms needed but a spike around key dates.
- The Plastic Merchant Website Is Gone & With It Your Records by Miles to Memories. Looks to be down due to non payment. At least people can’t upload cards anymore.
- Another New FoundersCard Benefit for American Airlines! by Miles to Memories. 5%-10% discount in the form of a promo code, so shouldn’t be inflated prices.
- Meal-kit company Chef’d suddenly shut down and laid off its hundreds of employees by Business Insider. I know some readers had bought giftcards on heavy discount, unclear what will happen to those who have gift cards remaining. Usually it’s treated as unsecured debt and you’re unlikely to see the money again but that remains to be seen with Chef’d.

Just on the outside chance anyone else is in the same situation, your thoughts would be appreciated. I ordered $119 worth of meals on July 15 expecting a delivery that never came, no email, no notice, no refund. (We were on an island with no bridge and only a small overpriced market!) They ceased operations on July 16. They do not respond to emails or calls and I have had no luck finding a way to contact someone for a refund. I am holding one last $50 gift card - I will ask Costco about a refund on that one. I hope I'm not out the $119 for goods promised that never arrived. Thanks folks!
If Chef'd has ceased operations why is the website fully operational?
Something is off.
Looks that way, but if you try to order anything it says:
“Error
Due to some technical difficulties we can no longer accept orders as of right now. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
any business built upon discounting 40-50%+ is usually doomed to fail.
ex: chef'd. ex: Groupon
Most of these businesses are subsidized with venture capital funds. Even Uber is still losing money on each ride. American Express probably got a killer deal on Uber credit due to VC subsidies so it's a benefit they can provide very cheaply.
We can enjoy the discounts as long as the fountain is open.
How do you know they are losing money on each ride? If that's the case how is that a sustainable business?
Depends. Jos A Bank has their 6 for one sales all the time. Crappy suits but they're still kicking
Haha, Mens Wearshouse never should have bought POS JOS. Oh yeah buy 1 of these $1195 MSRP suits get 3 free..should be more like MSRP of $50.
Youre gonna hate the way you look I guarantee it, unless you like the look of a cheap ill-fitting suit which cost $20 to make in a china sweatshop and is ruined after 1 dry clean. But if thats your thing then you're gonna like the way you look...I guarantee it!
Wowwww I was about to buy discounted Chef'd gift card because of the costco promo and I forgot!!
I hit Costco up by chat and they said they will refund the orders. I had actually passed one on as an actual gift, so there's going to be some embarrassment when I have to fulfill via another gift...
