The Offer
- Community State Bank is offering a $127 bonus when you open a new checking account and complete the following requirements:
- Receive a qualifying direct deposit within 60 days of account opening
The Fine Print
- Offer is available to new consumer checking customers only and applies solely to the primary owner of the new checking account. The primary account owner is defined as the individual whose Taxpayer Identification Number (such as a Social Security Number) is assigned to the account and who bears tax responsibility. This offer is not available to existing customers, individuals who have closed a Community State Bank checking account within the past 12 months, Community State Bank employees, or non-resident aliens or foreign entities submitting any version of IRS Form W-8. Only one new checking account opening-related bonus may be received every two years, based on the last coupon enrollment date, and only one bonus is permitted per account. Additionally, only one bonus will be paid per household, regardless of the number of accounts opened or individuals residing at the same address.
- Qualifying direct deposit is defined as electronic deposits of your paycheck, pension, or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or a government agency. Person-to-person payments (such as Zelle), external transfers from other financial institutions, and deposits made at a branch, ATM, or through mobile banking do not qualify as direct deposits.
- Once the two requirements are met, the $127 bonus will be deposited into your new account within five business days. The account must be open and not restricted at the time of bonus payment. If the account is closed within 90 days of opening, a $20 early closure fee may apply. No minimum opening deposit is required; however, minimum balance requirements may apply depending on the type of checking account selected. Please consult a banker or refer to the account disclosures for additional details. Additional details may also be found online at: csb.bank.
- The bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT. Community State Bank will report the bonus as income to tax authorities as required by applicable law. Offer expires on August 30th, 2025. However, this offer may be modified or discontinued at any time without notice. Coupon valid for one-time use only.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is any EATF or not.

Applied 8/2, app went pending. Denied at ~9:30 AM CT 8/4. I am in network.
Tried playing dumb and following up to seek a reconsideration. Told they rejected due to Chex. My #'s are high, probably opened 5 new accts in the last 4 months and 7 this year with another that was rejected for Chex. Tried playing dumb more playing on the build a relationship angles that sometimes work, etc.
Ended with a statement of "they have bad experience with high Chex" so likely very Chex sensitive bank.
Assuming no instant approvals, also went pending and I meet the location requirements.
