• Huntington bank is offering a $150 checking bonus when you open a new checking account at a Meijer location. Requirements are as follows:
  • Open by 6/19/2017
  • Make $1,000 in deposits into the new account within 60 days of account opening

The Fine Print

• All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Seems like you can open an asterisk free checking account that has no monthly fees to worry about. There are also no early account termination fees on this account

Our Verdict

There is a $200 bonus that is also available. There are two reasons why you might prefer this $150 promotion instead:

1. It doesn’t contain the language stating you’re not eligible if you’ve closed an account in the last six months
2. It requires the fee free account and not the 5 checking account ($5 fee, waived with $5,000 in balances)

Personally I think it’s only worth considering if you’ve closed an account in the last six months otherwise you’d be better off going with the $200 bonus and paying the monthly fee and closing as soon as you can. I don’t know an easy way to find a list of their Meijer branches unfortunately.
