Our Verdict
We’ve seen them offer a $200 bonus in the past, I like this bonus a lot more due to the $400 option. The downside is needing a direct deposit active for a year to get the full $400. Even if you just did the $400 bonus and got the first $200 of it though it’s a good deal. This will be better for those that can easily change their real payroll (especially if you can split it). Another downside is having to go in branch even if you open online. I will add this to our best checking bonuses though as $200/$400 is one of the larger bonuses available.

I will miss $4000 dd req by 2 days. Anyone know what else counts as DD?
Also, for the second $100/$200, does the "maintain a qualifying direct deposit" mean you have to do 1.5k/4k DD every month for the entire year?
If so I might just do 4k DD and take the first $200 tbh...
DP:
Opened an account in branch yesterday - I'm in PA but 76 miles from the closest branch. Banker said I'm outside the service area but I said I was gonna do an internship in the area soon so he went ahead and opened the account for me anyway. The bonus was attached the account automatically it seems, as I did not need to show the webpage or any promo codes - the banker just said if I did 4k recurring DD I can get $400 bonus.
FYI it's NWSB, not NSWB.
Thanks, fixing now.
Okay, so I did go down to one of their branches near Harrisburg. Opened successfully in branch (my home address is more that 100 miles from this branch). Banker said again that opening online may be different, but for in branch apps, you're good to go as long as you live in PA (or MD for NSWB). I'll use my employer DD for the first $200 though, so won't be able to add useful DPs on the DD requirement. Please let me know if anyone wants to sign up for it. I would be grateful if you guys can use my referral.
Which branch did you go to? I'm over 100 miles away also, but may cross the state at some point over the next two months.
Dillsburg, a 15 minute drive from downtown Harrisburg
Anyone have DP of what counts as an DD?
Applied yesterday and got an email today saying that they cannot open the application eventhough I stay like 8 miles away from the bank but in a different county.Called for recon and will know on monday whether they can approve or not.
Update : Got an email that they cannot open the account since I am outside of their service area
Very easy to get. Your info is correct.
I live just over 30 miles from the nearest branch, and was given the same denial that I am outside the service area. I'm in Maryland, and not in the county their branches are in (they mention being Carrol County's local bank), so I'm not sure if it was the distance or my home county that was the issue. Either way, I called the person who reviewed my application and asked for an exemption. I stated that I frequently work near a branch - not even every day. They had to escalate it to their supervisor, but I got the call this morning that my account was approved. The final step of account creation has to be done in branch, so I'll be doing that once my nearest branch has the paperwork.
(4) Establish a MasterCard® debit card and conduct 10 unique transactions. It may take more than two days for a transaction to post and clear.
So, a bit more hassle...
I live 29 miles away per google maps. Will give this a try later today
It works in branch - I live like 70+ miles from branch in PA but opened successfully yesterday.
Do you know if 10 unique transactions means I can't just do 10 amazon/circle pay loads? What about 10 separate bananas at Walmart?
