  • 05/14: Account opened. CC funding didn't go through even after calling CS many times

  • It's funny that none of the schools listed is TX-based. They are all California schools 😂

  • Looks like it got pulled way early. Getting an "Invalid Promo Code" message when trying to enter the code (TEXAS) on "Have a promo code?" on the first page or "I have a promo code." on the next page.

  • P1 and P2 got rejected. Both are students in Texas and have .edu email.

"Thank you for your interest in becoming a member-owner of University Credit Union. We regret to inform you that we were unable to approve your application because it did not meet our membership requirements."

  • The terms are pretty clear that all Texas residents should be eligible for the promotion. That being said, on the online application there is no membership eligibility option that includes residency status as a way to qualify for membership (vs. the promotion). However, there is an option to support the UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital or other university support organization.

Donated some money to the hospital and submitted an application, which is "in review." Worst case, I supported a children's hospital, which is always a good thing. Best case, account is approved and I get the bonus. Let's see what happens.

    • Update: Application was approved, no question asked. Chex is relatively high, applied with it unfrozen.

CC and Google Pay funding showed up as funding options ($5-1k) but never worked, despite trying on different devices/browsers. Phone support was nice but did not solve the problem.

Real DD went in, appears this is one of those banks that posts 4 biz days early, which is cool. Online banking interface is decent but it they don't have Zelle.

  • does this offer work if you are enrolled at a Texas university but you are a virtual student living somewhere else?

  • Unless I'm misinterpreting the terms, I don't think you necessarily have to have a student email:

    • Primary member must attend or be employed by an accredited university within the state of Texas, or (emphasis mine) be a resident of the state of Texas to be eligible for promotional payout. Proof of Texas residency or proof of enrollment or employment at an accredited university in the state of Texas may be required prior to promotional payout.
    • I agree with you. I think that part was copied from the title of the post for a previous offer which required an .edu email.

  • Unless something has changed in the last few weeks, CC funding is limited to $1k (not $5k as stated in the post). @2

  • I'm a bit puzzled by the statement 'Our Verdict: Not as good as the $300 bonus previously offered, now only available in TX,' especially since the link https://www.ucu.org/texas-new-members redirects me to 'Texas: Get up to $300 by joining University Credit Union!' It seems the current offer is $300, not $100, and it expires on July 31, 2025.

    • Checking is $100 bonus. Credit Card is an additional $100 and $100 for a consumer loan.

    • If you scroll down a little more you can see that there are separate $100 bonuses that equal up to $300. The checking account bonus only accounts for $100.

  • Watching comments here if anyone has way to get .edu email as mine is no longer working.

    • You can get one at eBay for five dollars. Address, i converted the site address to smaller URL because it's long: tinyurl dot com/eduforfive

        • @guest_2046973 I just checked as I write this, and there are 2 separate listings for an edu address from this seller, and both say one available. By the way, I got one successfully Friday. It's a real edu address that goes through Gmail as the place to actually send and receive the edu address emails. (I am not related to this seller in any way,)

          • @guest_2046949 Just curious, did you get the edu address for this offer or something else? P2 and I both work in education so we have multiple edu addresses, so wondering what great deal I'm missing out on...

          • @guest_2047043 I got the edu address for something completely different, and not financially related. I became interested in this Google offer (it only lasts 15 months, and then they will ask for $20 per month, but people can cancel at that time, which I will). Shortened address: tinyurl dot com/offergeminiai
