The Fine Print

  • Restrictions apply. Limit one offer per account.
  • Prospective members must establish membership and open a checking account at Ascend’s Brentwood financial center.
  • Members who have closed an Ascend checking account within the previous 12 months are not eligible for this offer.
  • The membership drive offer is only open to prospective members of Ascend who are 18 years or older. Ascend employees, their immediate family members, Ascend volunteers, existing members, and Board members are not eligible for this offer.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

There is a $15 early account termination fee if closed within 60 days of account opening. There is a $3 monthly fee that is waived if you meet any of the following requirements:

  • Maintain an average monthly balance of at least $100 in a savings or checking account
  • Have a Preferred checking account; have a Share certificate
  • Bave an active non-delinquent loan (including credit cards)
  • Gave a Money Market account with a balance of at least $2,500
  • If you are 18 years of age or younger

Our Verdict

Sadly it’s a hard pull otherwise it would definitely be worth doing as there is no direct deposit requirement and should be quite easy for most people to meet the debit card transaction requirement. Because it’s a hard pull I don’t think it’s worth doing so won’t be adding this to our list of the best checking bonuses.

  • They pulled Experian. FYI the 25 transactions must also be completed by 4/27 and the debit card doesn’t work for online purchases for 24-48 hours after activation.

  • Too bad they don't offer signup bonuses on credit cards. That would have been the best way to tell them to use the same pull for the account and a credit card. But, this time is a pass.
