The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • GTE Financial is offering a referral bonus ($200 for new member, $50 for person referring). Person being referred must enter the referral code and
    • Fund with a minimum of $100 within 10 days of opening the account
    • Direct deposit must hit the account, totaling $2,000 during the promotional period

The Fine Print

  • Referral incentives cannot be combined with other offers or incentives. Both members’ accounts (the existing member referrer and the new referred member) must be active and in good standing, including no prior charged-off account to receive a referral payment.
  • Both members must be a primary accountholder, must be at least 18 years old and Florida residents.
  • The referring member can earn an unlimited $50 payout upon qualification. The referred, new member can only earn one (1) $200 payout upon qualification.
  • The referred member must not have had any relationship with GTE Financial in 2024 or 2025, to qualify as a new member.
  • The new member must fund a member owner share account with $5, open a regular share account, and open a qualifying product, with all requirements met, during the promotional time period of 7/14/2025 and 10/31/2025.
  • Referral code must be accurately inputted or applied at the new member application time to qualify (it cannot be added at a different time, and the unique referral code must match the existing member accurately).
  • If the existing member receives payment for the $25 Refer-a-Friend program during the promotional time period, final referral payout for this promotion will be adjusted, as offers cannot be combined.
  • Payment may also be denied if it is determined that the system has been “gamed” or manipulated whereby accounts are not genuine.
  • Legal action may be pursued.
  • Promotion is subject to change or cancellation without notice. Payouts will occur by the 3rd week in November 2025 into the members’ primary share account.
  • GTE Financial and its employees, affiliates, subsidiaries, and agents are not responsible for: technical failures or errors related to the referral code and application process; late or incomplete applications; any injuries, losses, or damages caused by participation.
  • Direct deposit must be intact and active at the time of payment to receive the referral payout. Please note, direct deposit must hit the account during the promotional time period; timing for direct deposit set-up and payment is variable and contingent on the employer.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Our Verdict

Not really worth considering as there was recently a $300 checking bonus with requirements that are easier to meet. Do not share your referrals in the comments below. We won’t be adding this to the best bank account bonus page

    • People can refer others they actually know? It's not competitive compared to a recent $300 bonus.

      • The recent one you're referring to was a year ago. And this bank has only had a $300 bonus for two months in its entire history, every other time they've had a bonus it's been $200, just like this one. I completed the $300 bonus last year but I'd like to do this bonus for P2 now rather than cross my fingers that the rare $300 bonus comes back.

  • For $200 the requirements aren't that bad, unless the $300 offer comes back.
Keeping the account free is slightly annoying but easy (a monthly $500 ACH push works from any bank).

    • This one also opens the door to churners if you haven’t had the account since 2024 I believe the $300 was a lifetime exclusion so that’s an improvement.

      • @guest_2127384 You are correct. The previous promo stated "Offer not valid for anyone who has banked with GTE Financial in the past."

      • I had assumed that referred to codes and links posted directly in the comments, at least from the activity I've seen on other pages. There also doesn't seem to be a dedicated referral page for GTE. That said, if I'm incorrect, I'm sure DoC will remove my comment.

        • Other page activity isn’t really relevant. @2 pointed out it wasn’t a good deal and stated no referrals and presume that would include soliciting them.

          • Other page activity may not be relevant to you, but it is to me, especially when what I'm seeing on other pages is for referral bonuses that are lower than this one and not even the subject of the page (i.e., Citadel).

          • This page quite clearly says do not share referrals. Why on earth would it matter what happens on other pages? Please follow the rules.

          • The obvious implication is that those "rules" aren't applied consistently. I figured that wouldn't need further explanation. Also, what exactly is the point of this post on GTE's referral bonus then? It seems like a bonus that could work fairly easily for someone car shopping in Florida, but because you've decided it isn't worth it, no one's allowed to try?

          • You agreed to rules when you commented and the post specifically states you're not allowed to share referrals. I'm not sure it can be any clearer than that.

It seems you really only contribute on this site to share your referral, that's not how this community is supposed to work.

          • Not to be rude, but I kind of agree. It's not like you can just google "GTE referral bonus Florida" and have it pop up or anything like you could with certain other referral bonuses. There's no real point in having this post at all without some way on the site to get a referral. Even like "you're allowed to post your email and ask for a referral, but do not post your own referrals" or something.

          • The rules state: Do not leave referral links, codes or text unless the post specifically states this is allowed. Read the rules for leaving your referral links, codes or text when it is specifically allowed. This might vary from post to post so please read it each time.

When it comes to referrals, DoC has to police them and I'm sure that takes a lot of time. It's their blog and they've saved/earned me, and I'm sure a lot of people, a lot of money and time so it seems the least we can do is respect the rules.
