Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

They offer a free checking account with no monthly fees to worry about.

Early Account Termination Fee

I wasn’t able to find any early account termination fee in their fee schedule.

Our Verdict

Now that we know it’s a soft pull, I will be adding this to our list of the best checking account bonuses.

  • There is an easy way to join OOS which is a bit under the radar:
    https://www.lscu.coop/foundation/friend-of-foundation.php

Friends of the foundation is free to join but you may need to make a donation (I did) which is around $15

It is not listed as an option until you do the actual application so it is a bit hidden.
Joined/approved successfully OOS using this method without issue.

    • Was your application approved automatically or did they reach out to you to get the proof of "Friends of Foundation" membership?

      • I believe I got an initial congratulations but that someone would be reaching out to me to complete the process.. They then just asked for 1) Copy of ID 2) Evidence of Eligibility for the method you used

(They literally said it as above and did not ask specifically for Friends of Foundation)
I then uploaded a receipt for Friends of the Foundation along with ID and the account was quickly opened with no further contact.. That was it..

  • This CU is weird, they asked me to send the W2 of 2024 from a former employer, and doesn't accept any older W2. An agent told me the definition of "former employer" is the company you worked in 2024 only.

  • This offer (as of 3/30/25) requires direct deposits of $1,000. For debit card purchases, they didn't mention minimum amount (I've seen some banks require at least $5-$15 each).

    >>> "To qualify, simply establish and complete Direct Deposits totaling $1,000 to your new Checking Account and make at least 10 Visa® Debit Card purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. "

  • @2,

I just checked the link in the post and there is a new $200 offer. It is valid through 5.31.25 with code "CHECKING200".

    • Good find.

      I guess no churning?
"This offer is valid for the first-time Delta Community members only ..."

      • I’ve gotten this bonus twice. They auto close your account after sometime and I reopened the account with bonus codes each time. I’d go for a 3rd but I kept this account open because it is a pretty good CU to actually use

          • Good loan rates, in the no fee CU network, quick transfers, a great app for a CU and they did ALL the foot work for my car refi when I bought A new car on dealership financing for a better price then refinanced appropriately 2 weeks later for 4 points below the dealerships rate thru delta

      • @guest_1668718,

I think that clause has always been there and I do recall people (including @guest_1189479 and @guest_1148140) reporting being able to successfully churn Delta despite those very restrictive terms.

That being said, I think that Wayne told me that he didn't receive the bonus during his 3rd churn attempt but hopefully he can confirm that.

Also, it appears to be much harder to get in OOS as I don't think the Creflo route works anymore. I've just kept my account open all of this time so even if I wanted to try, I wouldn't be able to attempt another churn.

        Are you going to try?

        • Eric is correct I did not get the bonus in 2024. I did receive it twice before that time.

          • Had you closed your membership and then joined again, or did you open a new checking account?

  • P1 and P2 same DP.
