    • Enroll in eStatements

    • Set up and receive a direct deposit or make 5 debit card purchases within 60 days of account opening

The Fine Print

  • Receive a $100 bonus with a new checking account.
  • Normal approval standards apply. Offer is available to “new” Members only.
  • Must open a personal checking account, enroll in e-Statements, sign up and qualify for a Debit MasterCard, and either set up and receive Direct Deposit or make 5 Debit Card purchases within 60 days.
  • Bonus typically paid within 90 days.
  • Bonus represents dividends deposited into your account and may be reported to the IRS. Any taxes are your responsibility.
  • The new checking account must remain open for 90 days or bonus may be reversed.
  • Min. opening deposit is $25 for all accounts except Better Than Free which has no minimum. Membership fee is $5. Federally insured by NCUA.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

They no longer offer a free checking account, the easiest account to keep fee free is the basic account. This has a $6 fee that is waived if with an average daily balance of $750+ or with a direct deposit. You do need to keep the account open for 90 days, otherwise the bonus will be forfeit.

Our Verdict

They have offered other $100 bonuses in the past and you used to be able to fund with a credit card up to $5,000 but that was reduced to only $500. Given that this one can be opened online, can be funded with a credit card for a small amount and direct deposit isn’t required I’m going to add this to the best bonus list.

  • Just received a target email to set up a DD for 3 months to get $100. T&C: Direct deposit is a deposit of money by an employer issuing payroll or a federal or state government agency paying benefits directly into a payee's bank account. In order to qualify for the promotion incentive, the direct deposit amount must total $1,000 or more each month for three (3) consecutive months. The first direct deposit must occur by October 31, 2021. If the first direct deposit is received in September, there must be a deposit in October and November of at least $1,000 to qualify. If the first direct deposit is received in October, there must be a deposit in November and December. Earned promotion incentive ($100) will be deposited into primary account within 90 days after the requirement is met. Account is limited to qualifying for one promotion incentive.

  • Opened mid-May, did actual debit purchases not Amazon loads or some such. Bonus posted today. Good times.

  • 5/27: Account created
6/29: $10 work direct deposit posted
7/14: $10 work direct deposit posted
    7/31: $100 bonus

There's now a few data points that the bonus posts the end of the next month after you satisfy the requirements.

They did a Chex inquiry and a soft pull. I stopped direct deposits to them and plan on closing at the end of next month after the early account termination fee no longer applies.

      • @guest_1035041 Mine is coded under "Description" as "Deposit ACH [Company] Engine / Type: Direct Dep Co: [Company] Engine" and under "Type" as "Deposit." A transfer I did from Elements was registered as "Deposit ACH sfer via Online / Type: Ext Transf Co: sfer via Online" and "Deposit". I think you want that type field to be direct deposit for it to work.
