The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • The Police Credit Union is offering a $300 bonus when you open a new checking account and complete the following requirements:
    • Make ongoing direct deposits totaling $1000 or more within 90 days of Checking Account opening

The Fine Print

  • To qualify for the $300 bonus, the new member must open a new TPCU Checking account within 90 calendar days of their initial join date, a minimum recurring qualifying direct deposit of $1,000 monthly, must be deposited within 90 days of checking account opening (two direct deposits of $500 are acceptable).
  • Qualifying direct deposits are deposits of regular monthly income (such as your salary, pension, or Social Security benefits) that are made by your employer or other payer using the account and routing numbers that you provide to them.
  • The bonus will be deposited into the new checking account within 60 business days after meeting the $1,000 direct deposit requirement.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

This account has no monthly fees to worry about.

Early Account Termination Fee

I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is any EATF.

Our Verdict

Seems difficult to get approved if you have many inquiries in the last 90 days. Overall the bonus is good and worth doing if you can get approved. Suspect it might die early so hop on it if you’re interested. Will add to our best bank account bonuses.

  • New statement above T&C: "Please be aware that if your ChexSystems report indicates certain risk factors, such as a high number of inquiries or negative account history, your application may be declined."

Denied, recent Chex 0/90, probably about 12/12

  • One of the requirement products for joining with ACC is they are asking you to select opening a savings account. Is this normal proceeding to getting the checking bonus once requirements are met? The only option I have is this one:
    Membership Savings Account
Required to establish your membership with The Police Credit Union
    APY: 0.050% Min Deposit: $25.00

    • That requirement has nothing to do with joining through the ACC. Most, if not all, CUs require opening a "share" Savings account. That is your part ownership of the CU.

    • Someone with high chex got approved over in the contact us page by doing a video call. Was before the DoC effect so may not still apply, but if you do apply it might be worth the shot.

      • Thanks, somehow my eyes went right over that. So it's not 1/3 and it's not 10/12. Must just be some arbitrarily low number

        • Could be based off QualiFile scores, and CSRs just talking out of their asses about inquiry thresholds.

  • Damn, burned again. Second denial this month even with a decent chex. Both are CA based CUs. 1/3, 2/6

  • F the police comin' straight from the doctor-crowd.
Young churners got it bad cause of chex.

  • Applied 4/29. Received denial 4/30 due to Chex even though my last Chex pull was almost 6 months ago at the start of Nov'24. Count is 6/12.

    • It's back, but with one prominent addition at the top of the terms:

      • Please be aware that if your ChexSystems report indicates certain risk factors, such as a high number of inquiries or negative account history, your application may be declined.

Now who could that be? 🙂

      • Translated the new term to plain English:

"Please be aware that if your ChexSystems report indicates certain risk factors, such as a high number of inquiries [an inquiry] or negative account history, your application may be declined."

      • "You have the right to not apply for a checking account. Anything on your Chex report can and will be used against you in our decision process..."

  • Despite getting a message stating “A representative from The Police Credit Union will be contacting you soon to welcome you and answer any questions you may have." I received a secure message today that pointed to their report and ultimately stated "We regret we cannot open your account today due to information received from ChexSystems Inc, a consumer‐reporting agency"

As others have said it seems as you need to have a completely clean Chex for approval. Or they're filtering people coming from DoC.
