Our Verdict
Reader Jay was able to get this offer just by going into a branch and asking if they had any current promotions for opening a new account. Entirely possible it won’t be available in all/most branches, but feel free to share your data points in the comments below. Similar to a previous targeted bonus, with higher tiers available as well. The return gets worse as the bonus increases as unfortunately.

The hold time is 60 days. Would it make sense to do the 200k/2000$ bonus if there were no available offers in that 60 day period?
I would be keeping the money in IMMA account while earning the bonus. Since it's 4%,thrse are the total apy + bonus.
Bonus Deposit Bonus APY Total APY (4% + Bonus)
$200 $5,000 24.33% 28.33%
$500 $15,000 20.28% 24.28%
$700 $25,000 17.03% 21.03%
$1,000 $50,000 12.17% 16.17%
$1,500 $100,000 9.13% 13.13%
$2,000 $200,000 6.08% 10.08%
can I pull money to Citi Biz account from within the Citi portal? I can't find it, and the source bank have monthly withdraw limit so I can not push into Citi
Hi, I don’t have a business . Have people opened business accounts for sole prop (online seller etc).
I started the application but paused once I saw they are asking for business revenue / employees etc.
Can someone share their experience of opening account in a similar situation?
@guest_2094312 Can you plausibly say that you are starting a new business? You are opening an account as one of your first steps. Then you can tell the banker about all the things you are going to do in the future. (By the way, this is an in-branch only offer. You were filling out a contact form, not an application.)
Only if they allow you to use your ss# as a sole prop. Otherwise you will need at least an LLC. Give them a call.

Can one earn Citigold status with this account if holding over $200k in a linked investment account? Or can Citigold be earned only with a personal checking account?
@guest_2094290 Citigold is for consumer accounts only.
Citi also has a in branch money market (IMMA) offer of 4.05% which can be combined with this checking offer.
Indeed. That was there before too.
I think I saw they extended that offer to October when I was in the branch today for something else. May need to call them or wait for someone else to confirm.
FYI: Here's a direct link to the offer: https://banking.citi.com/cbol/small-business/checking-offer
Yes, you still have to open in branch but it contains the terms.
The link does not work.
I was at Citi today and their promo has different brackets.
$5k-$19999 $300
$20k-$49999 $500
$50k-$99999 $1000
$100k-$199999 $1500
$200k+ $2000
Interesting. Why would you even bother doing a big deposit with them? Doesn't make sense percentage-wise.
Question about Citibank promo terms — “On Deposit” vs. “Available Balance”?
Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone can clarify this for me:
Citibank’s promotional terms state:
“On the 45th day after your account is opened, we will check your ‘On Deposit’ balance of New-to-Citibank Funds, which will determine the maximum Cash Bonus you can potentially earn.”
My question is about what exactly counts as “On Deposit.” Does this mean available balance or just funds that have been physically deposited, even if they're still on hold?
Here’s my situation: I plan to go into a branch around day 42 and deposit a large check. It likely won’t be available by day 45 since it takes a few days to clear, but technically it will be “on deposit” by then.
Would this satisfy the promo requirement, or do the funds actually need to be cleared and available by the 45th day?
Anyone with experience on this or who has gone through a similar promo—your insights would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance!
I actually called the Citibank 1-800 number to get clarification on what “On Deposit” actually means in the context of their promo.
Unfortunately, I got mixed answers from different reps. Some said the funds just need to be deposited by Day 45, even if they’re on hold. Others insisted the money needs to be fully available by then. It was honestly clear as mud.
Has anyone successfully qualified for the bonus after depositing a large check close to Day 45? I'd really appreciate hearing what worked (or didn’t) in your experience.
Thanks again!
@guest_2083721,
I have deposited checks in the past, and noticed that I didn't get the interest while they were on hold. The terms also state that funds need to be available (i.e. not on hold) for the promo. Fortunately, my deposits were available before the deadline, so I only lost a few dollars in interest.
After that, I have always done an ACH for the deposit(s).
@guest_2094809 Good to know! Thank you for your response.
@guest_2083721 This is a tricky gotcha in the fine print.
For the Citi consumer bonus, you only have to deposit by the various deadlines, and the promotional APY is applied when the funds are deposited, even when there's a hold.
But for the Citi business bonus, the terms are completely different -- funds have to be available to get the promotional APY, to earn the promotional APY, and to meet the bonus deadline.
Stopped by branch and asked when bonus would post. Opened back in
February. They sent a memo to back office and bonus posted a day later. Kept almost all $ in the IMMA for the 4+% interest. Will keep most of free balance there as this is a pretty good rate currently.
So you open the checking and fund it to the max you want and then push all to the MMA account and that works for this one?
