Our Verdict
The direct link above is just a generic M&T website link, so the bonus should work for any zip code deemed eligible (not sure what the “not transferable” means in the fine print). I’m assuming this bonus is available in the the states listed above, as was the case last time around (note it won’t work in all areas in those states). Let us know if you see eligible areas elsewhere. Remember, you can’t do this if you’ve gotten a bonus within 12 months.
There’s also a $50 referral offer from M&T which should stack with the regular bank bonus. More details and referral sharing can be found on this dedicated page. Do not share referrals in the comments here.

Would robinhood work? to trigger the bonus
So when I go to M&T's site, I see no mention of an offer. And when I start the process of opening a Checking account from an approved state with my Zip, I am not seeing an offer, what am I missing? 🙂
You're missing The Link from the main article above....
(Promo code is "TB")
It seems like the current $350 is only for the Premium account that has a maintenance fee.
So either:
1. keep there $7500
2. Keep it for 90 days after depositing (3*25) plus pay early termination fee (50). So 350-125.
3. Keep it for 180 days (6*25). So 350-150
Did I get it right?
No. The monthly fee is waived for the first statement, the bonus pays out quickly after your DD, and you can downgrade to EZChoice Checking right after the bonus posts.
Yes, everything is done within 30 days, so no worries about monthly fee.
$350 is such a weak combo bonus for MTB and not worth the hassle of a potential branch visit. $450 or GTF home
.
The bonus is back!

Just to make sure I'm getting the churning details right from other DPs:
Keep the current checking and relationship saving account opened. Open a new checking with promo exactly 12 months after the bonus posted in the first checking account.
Is that right? Am I missing something?
Also, I opened in-branch since I was OOS. I'm assuming subsequent account applications won't need me to go in branch since I have a relationship?
Yes, you can keep your existing accounts open for the next churn in 12 months after receiving the checking bonus (assuming the churning restrictions will remain the same).
As for subsequent applications as an existing OOS customer, I am not sure if they will need to do any further verification at that time. In theory, it should be smooth for an existing customer logging in to apply.
Remember our convo where I tested OOS online apps and they don’t work?
Ah, I forgot. I just dug it out for Avi's reference: #1975539 from the gray pickle. I hope M&T will give the green light for existing OOS customers one day 😀.
Here’s to hoping! I’ll actually be in NYC again next month, but it’s too early for my churn. 😔
What do you guys mean by keeping existing relationship with M&T?
Does it mean to have the existing checking account open on which you already got the bonus and use that after 12 months to open a new checking account under the same login ID credentials and get the bonus again? Can we keep 2 checking accounts under one login in M&T ? @guest_1985420 @18
Some of us used to have 5+ M&T Checking accounts open at once back in the day. I remember transferring $.01 to each of them to keep them all active. I'm pretty sure that we were even able to do multiple promos at the same time back then. Those were the days!
what do you mean by multiple promos at the same time? You mean having multiple checking accounts opened at the same time under same offer and getting bonus for all of them?
@guest_2130016,
I just replied to your comment and it went to moderation. When it eventually gets posted, my 2nd to last sentence should be "I do see you trying to catch up by posting on most bonus pages" rather than "I do see you trying to catch up by posting on both bonus pages".
I didn't want to edit it and risk my comment going to Spam as that's a nightmare!
No, that's not what I meant. M&T used to run many promos with 2 digit codes (eg "TE"). Sometimes, the promos ran at the same time.
We were able to open a new Checking account, based on the terms, for example "TB" promo while still working on "TE".
Eventually, M&T changed the terms to not allow current Checking customers to take part and that's why I ended up closing my many accounts at some point.
However, now they changed it back to allow existing Checking customers to participate in new offers but they have churning rules that they didn't have many years ago. You missed out by not being on DoC until recently.
I do see you trying to catch up by posting on both bonus pages. I like that you ask good probing questions as curiosity is a sign of intelligence. 😉
Once upon a time, there was multiple promo codes, and for the risk takers, you could even open more than one checking account with the same code. Personally, I was afraid of clawbacks and always used unique codes with one exception.
In 2017, I used the following codes, each with a new account: (QD) (QK) (QL) (QD) (QI) (QC) (QH) (QE)
Pretty sure those days are over...
Omg .. 8 bonuses in one go 😅
2nd QD didn't payout. And they weren't all open at the same time, but there was definitely some overlap. That was over the course of 2017.
Yes, you can have multiple checking accounts under the same login. The $350 or higher bonus promotion requires opening one of the premium checking accounts, you can downgrade it to a no-fee EZChoice checking after receiving the bonus and keep this checking account. For the next churn, you will open one of the premium checking accounts as an existing customer, and you can close it later after receiving the bonus, so you will still keep your EZChoice checking for future churns.
nice to know. thanks
Well, it means keep an account open. For instance, I opened a savings account and a checking account, so technically I could close the checking and still maintain the banking relationship.
This promo currently doesn't exclude existing checking account owners, so you can open an additional checking account on your next churn. There are DPs of this working, and it actually helps to avoid the fraud wienies.
i see. thanks for this information. Wasn't aware.
Haven't seen any mention of it, so wanted to ask: when applying online did anyone receive their PIN for their debit card in the mail days after the card arrived and was activated?
It seems it is needed for bank to bank transfers, and I do not remember being prompted for a PIN when making the account online, nor was I asked when activating the card. Just want to make sure I don't wait around for it for no reason, if I need to go in branch or call to create it.
According to my notes, I set up the debit card PIN during the application for my two recent churns.
