The Fine Print

EZChoice Checking

This account has a monthly fee of $9.95, soon changing to $6.95.

  • Monthly fee is waived by making just ONE transaction such as a deposit, withdrawal, or debit purchase.

Basic Banking

This account has a non-waivable $3 monthly fee.

Early Account Termination Fee

There is an early close-out fee of $10 according to these terms & conditions if you cancel within 180 days of signing up. Update: Looks to be $50 now.

Our Verdict

Quite a good deal if you in a participating area. In the past, M&T Bank has offered similar $150 sign up bonuses and sometimes lower bonuses of $75-$100. They’ve also required us to go in-branch, yet this time, they explicitly state it can be done online.

Here is how to go about doing this promotion:

  • Open an EZChoice checking account and automate a $1 ACH transfer into the M&T account from my regular checking account, OR
  • Open a MyChoice checking account and park $500 there for 6-months
  • Do $100 direct deposit using payroll or try ACH transfer and hope that works as it has in the past
  • Wait for the bonus to post, 90-days after direct deposit
  • Wait 180 days from account opening date to avoid early account termination fee
  • Close account (can be done over the phone or by mail)

    CT, NJ, MA, and FL zip codes do not work. It appears this offer is only good for banks/branches that originally had M&T Bank last year. Banks from the acquired Hudson City banks do not count.

    Consider it a good thing that it’s showing ineligible for some. A few years ago I was able to sign up through one of their bonus offer links with my proper address and zip code. 6 months later – even with all requirements honestly met, no bonus because “your home region was not included in this particular offer”. There were no restrictions listed in the conditions other than, “Bonus offer is not available on all checking accounts, MAY VARY BY PRODUCT AND REGION [my caps], …”

    YMMV, but M&T waived the fee the first month for me since there I had some snafus getting DD set up.

    Got the $200 bonus in October. Handy too since they pre-approved me (still hard pull, but whatever) for their Visa Signature card with the 0% BT + no BT fee with a $100 on $1k ESB, which was very helpful for my cash flow.

    FYI, this offer has been extended to June 30th, 2016, according to the official direct link.

    Also, for another data point, I live in Virginia, but when I entered my ZIP code, I got an error message saying that the offer is not available in my area. There are many M&T Bank branches in Virginia, but none in the Hampton Roads area. When I entered a Richmond ZIP code, it went through. So I guess it is doing an automated verification of some kind, to make sure that there is a branch located within X miles of your ZIP code.

      It is a pita to find it. I thought I was able to before but searching around tonight, the only place I can find it is if I open a statement and view it. That option probably won’t be there on a new account but try it anyway, just in case.

        If you download the M& T app it will give you both routing and account numbers when you tap account info. Took me quite some time to figure that out.

            Not always. The page displayed that normally shows the acct # but no acct # was displayed. Also many, many times for me and hubby, after we answer security questions it simply says they need to verify our info. It doesn’t even get to part of selecting a PIN, stating funding amount or bank to draw from, etc. You just hit a dead end. In these instances our new account could be viewed by the end of the next business day.
            Seems to be different every time, with no rhyme or reason.

          I just discovered this Friday! This issue for my son right now is that his newest account is still not showing up online, 10 days after applying. They debited his other account for the start up funds, sent his ATM card + PIN, but still can’t do anything online with it.

    Okay, this is dumb. I set up online access, successfully added the account to my Ally account and started a transfer, and sent in the signature form. However, I was stupid and closed the window to the signup page that had my account number on it without saving it somewhere first. I don’t think they ever send you your account and routing numbers by mail, as the only thing I got from them was the debit card.

    The transfer posted, and the bonus also posted the same day, so at least that’s okay.
    I can login online, and transfer from Ally, but is there any way to find account info from your online account? There’s a branch somewhat close by if I need to go there, but I’d rather try doing this all online first.

It’s good since they actually have a branch in my “home” town (I travel, mostly abroad, 99% of the year). In my head it just seems like it’s more legit that way, sometimes I have problems applying for accounts abroad.

    Two questions:
    1. Do you have to send them the signed “Signature card” in order to receive the bonus?
    I believe Signature card is only useful if you intend on writing checks which I am not.

    2. I am unable to enroll for online access using Account # & SSN immediately after opening the account.

      No, I received my bonus and haven’t sent in the signature card yet. I think it said it was required so I am probably going to send it in.

      For all of that have signed up for multiple M&T accounts did you send in the signature card each time or only for the first account?

      Personally, I like to wait a month or so in between so it doesn’t ruffle their feathers and they shut me down. I’m up to 6 for me and 6 for hubby. Wait a few weeks if you can.

      On the confirmation page they provide you with the routing # as well as the Account #.
      You can also enroll for online access using your SSN and Account # BUT only BEFORE 10.30 PM. After that their system goes into maintenance mode and doesn’t allow enrollment.

      Pro Tip: I always take screenshots of every page while signing up. I use Chrome extension “Fireshot”. This makes life easier as I have a record for future.

            The full website doesn’t show it for whatever reason, but you can login with the mobile app and it lets you see your full account number there. It’s also in the monthly PDF statements.

    Direct link auto-fills QD as the promo code on the application.

    By clicking one “Email My Coupon”, I received yet another code (QC) in my email. However, the email includes this message: “Print this coupon and take it to an M&T Bank branch or show it on your mobile device.”

    I’m not sure if the QC promo code can be used online, but I would assume the banker would just open up the same link and fills in QC for you.

      Haven’t decided yet. Someone else mentioned that an ACH doesn’t count for monthly activity so I may make a purchase each month with the debit card.

        When I did a similar bonus last year I left $5 in the account and just scheduled a $1 payment each month to our credit card that we use for daily use so there’s always something to be paid on it. I schedule the payment from my credit card bank’s website to occur once per month for months 2-5 since month 1 has opening & bonus activity. Once the balance is down to $0, it’s been 6 months and can close it.

      Pull the funds from your external account that you used for your direct deposit. Never use the bonus bank to push funds out. If you used an employer you’ll have to setup an external account to pull funds.

          It’s just easier to have a single link than to setup links between accounts, plus some banks charge for transfers and you can use an account that is known to not charge.

      M&T charges a $3 fee to push funds out to an external bank. Another reason I LOVE Capital One 360 though there probably are others just as convenient.

    If you love Capital One which only allows you to link three accounts then you’ll be ecstatic with Ally Bank which allows unlimited number and their transfers are faster usually next day depending on certain factors.

      Thank you for that tip. I have heard good reviews of Ally on another forum, including a bit higher interest rate on savings accounts too.
      That alone was not enough to make the switch but being limited to 3 linked accounts is very frustrating right now.
      I will look into Ally and maybe will switch after the dust settles from the 12 checking accts I’m currently juggling.

        It’s worth having Ally Bank account without any promo since it also provides instant verification for lot of banks> For example, with Capital I had to wait for few days for small deposits to post and then verify but Ally did instant verification and I could just ACH $100 to it and within a day the bonus posted. The entire process took 3 days which I has to wait to verify account with Capital one.

    I have a stupid question…. What exactly do you mean when you say a deal is “churnable”?
    I did one M&T bonus last year for $150 and have 2 going concurrently now. My notes do not include the exact promo code I used last year but in Feb when I started to enter promo code QO, once I pressed the Q key, QL was offered to me as if that’s what I had entered once before. I am assuming that’s the code I used last year.
    So does churnable mean I can use that same code again? or it means I can get as many bonuses as they have codes to offer?

    I was under the impression I can only get 1 bonus per person per promo code.

      There is no minimum balance for EZChoice checking according to the agent I spoke to. I keep $25 in there to do the monthly debit purchase to waive the monthly fee.

    If I am understanding this correctly, although I did the $150 bonus (and still have the account open), I can also open separate accounts and get the $250 (QO) bonus, and the $200 (QK) bonus, and the $200 (QL) bonus, all concurrently. Is this correct? If yes, this is awesome! Sounds too good to be true…

      I don’t think that it will work if you try them concurrently.
      Better to try them one by one:
      Apply for one at a time and let the bonus post after meeting the requirements.
      I tried applying for a second account under my DW and it went to pending and took a long time to get approved after hassles.
      Remember, if it goes to pending then it has be manually reviewed and approved and no one knows yet if you still get the bonus for manually approved accounts.

        MarcoPolo, I did the $250 and $200 offers approx. 10 days apart. So by the time I was done with the dd funds from the first account, I pulled them back and pushed them again to the 2nd account. Before the dd hit the 2nd account, I requested the downgrade because the $250 account has some pretty steep requirements that I knew we could not fulfill.
        So it was downgraded before the first statement posted so we wouldn’t get hit with the monthly service fee.

        Now I’m starting to wonder if it’s too soon to try for a 3rd. I read on one of these M&T threads about someone having 5 accounts open at the same time. 😮

          I have done 3 offers (150, 200 & 200) each week successfully.
          I use Ally so ACH is fast and don’t even have to wait for trial deposits since Ally does instant verification.

          I don’t know if it is even possible to open 5 accounts at the same time since they will be flagged as duplicates.

      I havent tried it but M&T charges $3 for a transfer to/from another bank if scheduled through M&T. Even if you dont mind the fee, one doesn’t typically pull their dd from their employer’s bank but you’re free to try it.

      IIRC a push from M&T Bank has worked for someone.
      I would just stick to tried and tested methods unless you are feeling very adventurous.

    Look into Ally or Capital One 360. I’m a huge fan of Cap One and MarcoPolo loves Ally. As you explore this website and read comments about which bank pushes count as a dd, you will see these 2 bank names come up often.
    I haven’t looked into Ally yet (working a lot of OT lately) but I’ve been a Cap One customer for 12 years and they never charge fees unless you’re overdrawn.
    Marco says Ally is all that I love about Cap One and then some. I plan to check it out soon.

      Patti be careful about changing your external account out too quickly with CapOne360. They have been known to shut people down for doing this too much and too quickly. They called me once about it, I stopped with them except maybe one new account per 90 days.

      Ally doesn’t seem to care, although I had a transfer be rejected and they were not happy and said if it happens again, might take three months to get account access restored.

      People should tread a bit more lightly than they are. CapOne360 is my main bank and I won’t mess with them.

        So far I’ve done 3 M&T accounts this year, each being 1 month apart.
        The only thing that raised a flag with CO360 was when dh and ds20 at different times had 2 M&T accounts linked to their CO accounts at the same time.

        Their accounts were frozen by security and they had to call and explain. Ds20 told them flat out that M&T was offering a bonus so he took them up on their offer. had no problem with that. They kept him on hold while they called M&T to verify that both accounts actually belonged to him. Apparantly as long as someone is not linking to other people’s accounts they are ok with it.
        I’m taking a break for a while but with the next M&T bonus we do I will be sure to sever the link of the old M&T account before adding the new one.

    Once you try Ally you’ll hardly use Capital One and therefore I highly recommend Ally especially if you are doing multiple bank account bonus deals.

      There is no way that an internal transfer form one M&T account to another M&T account will work to trigger the bonus. You need to ACH push from an external account to M&T. This is how pretty much all banks work with respect to triggering the bonuses.

          With EZ Checking, ANY transaction counts as activity and waives the monthly fee.
          For my previous EZ Checking bonus, I left $5 in the account after withdrawing the dd funds, opening funds, & trial deposits. Then each month for 5 months I scheduled a $1 payment to my cc through that bank’s website.
          That $1 withdraw was enough to waive the monthly fee.

    My instinct is to be honest (it seems like it could possibly be considered fraud otherwise), but it seems like answering honestly would clearly label yourself as ineligible for the additional bonuses…

      An agent has told me that signature cards are not required for accounts opened online. I’ve sent them in for about half my accounts though. Also I think they only need the card to compare your signature on checks you write.

        My last app stopped me before fully opening the account saying they needed to verify the info I gave. The next day it showed with my other 2 accts when I logged in.
        Still I was snail-mailed a signature form that had my name and code # (not acct #) handwritten.
        For that reason I mailed it in.
        My 4th bonus should post tomorrow and I haven’t been denied new accounts yet. I’d like to keep it that way. A 49 cent stamp isn’t worth any future troubles with the bank. I’ll keep mailing them forms as long as they keep opening accounts for me.

    I’ve had no issues opening a single M&T account (I currently have 5) up until this one. I got a screen at the end of the process where I input all of my information and agree to the disclosures with a message that said they couldn’t open the account based on the information provided. It didn’t even let me get to the identification verification step. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

    Not long before M&T denied me, I tried to open a PNC account for the $300 bonus and they gave a similar explanation at the end saying the account couldn’t be opened online. But with that application, it let me do the identity verification questions. Since I know I answered them correctly, I tried a second time and it gave me 5 different identity verification questions. No dice the second time either.

    Did I just create a red flag in some system by attempting to open a few accounts in a short time span? Has anyone else ever had this issue? If so, did it fix itself on its own? Did you have to do something? Does it never go away? What do I do? I don’t want this wild ride of bank account sign up bonuses to end!

          I have a similar DP with the 3 account opening back to back one week apart (usually once the bonus hits the account I went on to the next one). I did this during the month of May 2017. Then I decided to slow down the account openings and waited about +30 days and successfully opened another account in June 2017. I decided with the crackdown on QJ i figured I should apply for this offer, however I was denied and stated I had to go into the bank. My application was exactly on 30 days from my last opening in June so I am not sure if I should have gave it a few more days. I will add that my wife just applied for 2 accounts 2 weeks ago and got the message that they will be contacting her. Once she sent in her SS card and drivers lic both opened up for her without issues. I wonder if my wife’s applications played a role in my denial (applied after both of her accounts opened) and it’s based on how many accounts opened at a physical mailing address regardless of who in the household signed up. Does anyone have any DPs that could argue this point? Let me know

    Hmmm… Just tried a minute ago and the application crapped out at the last step before confirmation. I entered the initial deposit amount, hit “Next”, and then it appeared to be processing before refreshing the screen, staying at the initial deposit step. Hitting “Next” again didn’t do anything and it wouldn’t back up either. I definitely did not receive any messages to apply in branch.

    I’ll try again midweek with another promo code in case there was a hiccup on the server. With any luck it actually took the first time and I’ll get a welcome package in the mail soon.

      Hey I had this issue. After a few tries (new window, refresh, enter, tab + space, etc.) it booted me back to the routing / acct info for the initial deposit. I tried again and it said “You’ve reached the maximum number of attempts” and I had to pick mail a check. May want to pick a different funding bank. Hope that helps.

    Has anyone experienced the bonus not posting quickly? My deposits cleared on 7/6/17 and 7/7/17 for my wife and I. I opened up two accounts each, one with each promo code that is still active. I used PayPal transfers/withdraws to bank account. All deposits posted on either 7/6 or 7/7 and are labeled as PAYPAL TRANSFER. I have no issue waiting longer but it seems everyone is posting that their bonus posted the same day as their initial deposits. I transferred $105 from PayPal to each account. I hope that PayPal still works as a qualifying DD/Transfer.

      It’s never happened in 7 accounts for me, 7 for hubby and 4 for our 20 yr old son.

      When you say you “opened up two accounts each” do you mean 4 accounts in your own name? Or also on behalf of others?

      I’d try pushing again some other way. After dealing with the frustration of time delay and security struggles with linking to Capital One 360 accounts, I have found the easiest way is to use my regular, little hometown bank’s bill pay service.
      Free, easy and nothing to link. I just enter the routing & acct number and simply push $100.

      I hope it works out for you.

          To pull the bonus funds back, I transfer it to the one M&T account that is still linked to my Cap One 360, savings for Vacation, Christmas, etc. I try to make sure the bonus goes to something fun.

    Yes, that’s exactly what I mean. I did one M&T bonus last year, closed it, then did 6 this year. All this time I’ve linking new accounts to our Cap One 360 account, waiting for trial deposits to be verified, etc. The last few times we tried to add new linked accounts, CO360 would put a freeze on all of our accts and we’d have to call their security dept to tell them it isn’t fraud. Bill pay does not have to be so secure as linking does because you only push out, it never pulls in. Linking goes both ways.
    Rather than keep explaining to CO360, I think I’ll keep that one M&T acct open so it’s easy to pull back whatever new M&T bonus we get.

      2. Why you cannot close all M&T’s accounts – clear your records with CO360 – and then when needed for new future bonuses open account with M&T and link one it to CO360….. you would have to do Direct Deposit for all upcoming new accounts, I assume from CO360…. CO360 may be again be frozen with many M&T’s accounts opened…. I’m missing something in your thoughts….

        SamSimon, Sorry, I did not explain it thoroughly.
        1. After having done MULTIPLE M&T accounts for bonuses, plus Wells Fargo, Santander, etc. I have changed the “linked accounts” with my CO360 many, many times. After probably the 8th time, dh’s account was frozen with a message to call their security team. He just had to verbally verify his ID and say that he indeed initiated the latest link, no one is trying to steal his $, and then they release the freeze. Obviously, the average banker doesn’t change links with other banks 2-3 times per month. lol. The freeze has happened to our 20 yr old son’s account and then mine too. Frequent unlinking then adding links raises suspicion in the fraud dept. CO360 only allows up to 3 external links at one time and I need at least one of those 3 to remain with our regular bank. That leaves me with 2 “extra” links. So I can’t keep adding links without eventually removing some too. All of this activity leads to a freeze.

        The purpose of linking is so that $$ can go from CO360 TO the linked account or funds can come FROM the linked account, back to CO360. It’s a 2-way street. Because funds can travel in either direction, that link must be very secure, as in the person creating that link must truly have legal access to funds in the other account or otherwise that would be theft.
        As far as I know, I could not link one of my accounts to another account that my name isn’t on. I wouldn’t even try. My only reason to link from my CO360 to a new M&T account is so that I can push funds into the new M&T account to mimic a dd, thus triggering the bonus. Sure, it’s nice to be able to “pull” it back but there are other ways to use that bonus $ without transferring it back to my CO360.
        On the other hand, using my regular bank’s bill pay, the transfer of funds is only one way. I sign up to tell my bank to pay any account and state the amount. My bank knows I’m logged in and I am willingly pushing funds out. Funds can’t be pulled back from this method so it doesn’t really care, nor expect me to have legal access to the account I’m sending $ to.
        When I pay my electric bill using online bill pay, of course I don’t have legal access to their bank account. It is not expected. I am not LINKING accounts with the electric company with 2 way transfers, just giving them my money.
        Also with bill pay, an average bank customer is expected to have quite a list of bills to pay to both companies or individual people, not just 3. So it doesn’t raise suspicion to keep adding more recipients to my list of bill payees.
        If my list is 10 payees long, so be it. No red flags or raised eyebrows with that. All I really need is to mimic the dd into my M&T account and with bill pay, it’s fast and easy.
        2. In the early days of getting bank bonuses, I did close out my accounts, delete the links with my CO360 and be done. No freezing happened.
        With M&T offering so many bonuses this year, in addition to doing bonuses from other banks, I have changed my external links with CO360 so many times that now every time I add another link, we get frozen. This is getting tiresome to deal with. I have 6 M&T accounts. If I keep one of those linked to my CO360 it’s all I need to be able to pull the dd funds and bonus funds back.
        So let’s say I open a new M&T account tomorrow. I am reluctant to add it to my CO360 or we’ll be frozen. So instead I bill pay from our regular bank to the new M&T account, trigger the bonus. Once the bill pay funds and the bonus posts and becomes available in my new account, I can easily transfer it to my old M&T account that still has a valid link to my CO360. Then I can use my CO360 to pull the bill pay funds and the bonus back and let’s say I put it in my vacation fund. No need to ever change my links with CO360 again. I will close all the other M&T accounts when their 6 month minimum passes but I will still keep that one open that is linked to my CO360.

            I think so!
            I’ve never used M&T’s bill pay to push it back to my regular bank but if they don’t charge a fee for it, it’s worth a try. I know they charge $3 for an external transfer so I avoid that.
            My regular bank offers a choice when setting up bill pay whether I want to pay a company, an individual or a bank (as for a loan payment).
            So let’s say I owe my sister $50 for sharing a gift to our parents, I can send it to her account if I know her acct # and routing # or I could use just her email address and she would enter her bank info. Either way it’s an electronic deposit which triggers a bonus with M&T.

            Marco Polo suggested using Ally Bank instead of CO360 because they allow more than 3 externally linked banks but now I don’t need to link at all. 🙂

            I just sent (bill pay) from chase to my CO360 Money Market, and CHASE is stating “5 business days (check)” crap ( I have no clue know, they will sent check to CO360 and they will deposit it to my account? I provided CO360 address and my account number, did I do something wrong?

            Neels, I bill pay electronically, providing the acct # and routing #. I never had to enter M&T’s address.
            I enter it as a person, so I list myself, my address and my acct. #. It shows up as having come from my husband since we share one log in with our regular account.

    Slightly unrelated to M&T bonuses but after years with CO360 and loving how easy they make it to push & pull funds from anywhere, I just discovered that if I use my regular bank to bill pay into my CO360, there’s no holding funds for a 1-7 days until it’s “available”. That is one aspect of CO360 that always irked me.
    So right now I’m saving for Christmas and yesterday bill payed directly into a 360 savings account, to “arrive” today. The funds are there now (6am) and completely available. No 7-day hold like I normally get when I use the 360 account to pull from my regular bank.
    Just thought I’d share since there’s a lot of 360 customers on here.

      They only hold the funds like that if you transfer to a savings account. Consider opening a checking account with Capital One 360. The funds are available after a day.

        I do have their checking acct too. My point was if you want to transfer funds with 0 hold time, it’s possible if you use bill pay from your regular bank.
        Even transferring into a savings acct, with bill pay it was scheduled for a Thurs and all funds were deposited and fully available the next day.

      Yes, one log in.
      When you apply and they ask you if you already have an acct, say yes. It’s ok.
      There is also a link once you’re logged in to transfer money between M&T accts. This makes it easy to keep the EZ accts fee-free. Any activity waives the fee.

    New data point that this bonus works in Seattle, WA which I haven’t yet seen confirmed.

    I opened an EZ account on 6/22, made a transfer from my Ally Checking on 7/14 (coded as P2P), this transfer was completed on 7/18, and the $150 bonus was also posted on 7/18.

    Now on to the next one!

      I’d like to know this too. I opened an account a few months ago for a different bonus, but I didn’t close it. I recently opened up another one using QD, but it hasn’t shown up in my online account even though I got the welcome email.

    Anybody ever try to set up bill pay on M&T online banking? I’ve tried several different credit cards (Chase, Citi, AmEx) and I keep getting an error saying that they can’t “confirm electronic delivery for this payee.” I don’t want to wait for a paper check to pay them – any ideas?

      I’ve been able to setup utility bills without any problem (gas, phone and electric) but when I tried setting up my Chase credit card, got the same error as you about not being able to confirm electronic delivery for this payee.

      For credit cards I have made payments with my M&T account by scheduling payments directly on Chase’s website. Once I log in to view my Chase accounts, I simply enter the routing & account numbers of whichever bank account I want to pay from.
      It’s easy and they let me store multiple bank accounts and I can assign nicknames too if I want.
      Similar set up with Capital One & Discover credit cards.

      Only one way I think you can try – if you are using MOZILLA FIREFOX browser – open new application and when they ask you to input “code section” – double click it…. will show all Codes you input…

    Contacting bank for any reason will make you get flagged by bank and the worst senario would be

    1. account get closed
    2. bonus get clawed back
    3. no more bonus deals

        As long as you are not contacting them related to bonus deal, you will be fine. I was telling not to contact the bank for inquirying about bonus i.e. “why am i not getting QJ bonus? because i had no problem getting the other bonuses!”. Closing account one by one after the 6 months looks okay.

      Emo, hey, where do you get your info? I understand that it’s common sence – better not to call at all, BUT HOW can you explain this? And they call almost everyone…. SO they see person opening 10th account and getting bonus, and they still asking if everything is good so far with their experience with their bank? or people who call us have no access to our accounts? they just do surveys?

    Hey guys, I had no problems applying for 3 other M&T bonuses back in May and June.

    Now I want to apply for the $150 bonus with QC or QD. I go to the link at M&T.

    I enter my zip code, but it gives me the msg: “This offer is not available in your region.”

    Did anybody apply anyways, and still get the bonus?

    I’m in FL, but I noticed that someone else in FL had no issues getting the $150 bonus. Thanks

      On the initial page where you first enter just a zip code, enter a zip code near a branch (look at their location map). That should get you past the error. Then select the account type to open and input all of your correct information after that point. Good luck!

    On the m&t application how should I answer existing m&t account question? For those with existing accounts do you say yes and provide the existing account number? Or will that mess something up?

      I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I’m on my second bonus. I truthfully answered “Yes” and I still got the bonus. Looks like other people in the comments did too.

      Like Chris said, it’s ok to say yes. When asked how I will use it, I am completely honest and say it’s a secondary account and mostly will be doing bank-to-bank transfers. Just applied for lucky #7.

      What do you mean? Set up a recurring transfer from another bank account to the M&T account you want to keep fee free…

      If you have more than 1 M&T account you can just transfer $ back and forth. My 20 yr old has small change in each account (<$0.25) and I just keep moving it around.
      When I only had 1 M&T account, I left $25 in it and would just make $5 payments to my cc each month til the $ was gone then close it. I scheduled the payments through my online cc account, not through M&T bill pay.

        Patti – is this working for you? My accounts show a $6.95 service fee, then an immediate credit of $6.95. Wouldn’t the initial charge overdraft your account?

        I set up auto transfers, so I move $1 from A to B, then B to C, and C to D each month, but I keep at least $10 in each account since I’m worried about the fee overdrafting the account.

          It’s been working fine for me since June 2016. I believe you only get an overdraft charge if, at the end of the business day, you are overdrawn.

          With my regular bank, I have my paycheck dd. I can pay my Chase cards through Chase website, scheduling the payment for the day before payday. Usually Chase withdraws the payment in the wee hours, often before my dd shows up.
          So my account might appear to be overdrawn for an hour or 2.

          Once everything officially posts at the end of the day, the list of transactions is rearranged so that the dd is listed first, then all the withdraws. I’ve been doing this for years. Money goes in and out all in one day and only our cushion is left til next pay. Works for me.

    DP – was able to open 3 new M&T accounts in just under 3 weeks. I know this is a foggy area (how often accounts can be opened), but here’s another DP.

    Question – has anybody ever had their DD hit the account before it even shows up in online banking? I opened a new account today and will have DD hit this Friday and post by Saturday. In the past, the bonus has posted on Saturday, too. However, if the account doesn’t show up until Sunday (according to DPs), will this be a problem?

      I’m stuck at 4 accounts as well. Tried opening QJ on 7/5 but got error unable to open via online channel. When that happened with my 3rd account they said to wait 30 days and apply again. Re-applied 8/5 and got error again. Tried Chrome and IE using same application method as other accounts, still unable to open any more.

      Any one else having this issue? I doubt they’re preventing ppl from opening accounts as MANY users are on their 10th+ accounts…

    pplied for first MTB using QD 3 wks ago. In FL so not targeted. Took a while to get login and acct number, so actual employee DD didn’t hit till yesterday. $150 bonus posted today! 🙂 FWIW I applied and shortly after people started stating their bonus weren’t posting if they weren’t targeted. Not sure if I got the last of it. Probably going to apply using same code again and report back.

    #2 was QC in June got $150
    #3 in July failed to get any bonus, I assume due to me using wrong code QL

    Where do I find next active bonus so I do not make a mistake as I did with #3 ?
