Amex will soon begin enforcing the pay-by date on charge cards, but they’ve also now extended the pay-by date from 15-days after statement close to 25-days.
For charge cards, Amex currently has two payment dates: one recommended please-pay-by date and the other the actual required payment date which is the date of the next statement close. In January, it’s changing that you’ll have to pay by the pay-by date. We wrote more about this here.
We weren’t sure whether they’d be extending the pay-by date from the unusually short 15-day period due to the new rule. Luckily, numerous people confirm that Amex is now showing a pay-by date of 25-days. That’s a normal amount of time we see on most credit cards.
In the end, the change in January will only diminish your pay-by time from around 30-days to 25-days. Just be aware of the change and set up your payments properly going forward so that you don’t get hit with any fees.
