Hope they’re upgrading it because I quite literally spend 50% of my time trying to reconnect to their WiFi network that constantly drops. Now everyone who doesn’t pass the pay gate of $8 will get it for free? Awesome it’ll be even worse

Literally one of the only benefits of their Performance card at the highest fee was free wifi. Now they take that away? And raise the fee? Come on, Southwest

I was on a SW flight early August and there was a free WiFi promo ongoing. I don’t remember which one but it wasn’t announced during the pre-flight announcements but clearly visible on the inflight browser page.

Worked great at first and I got some work-work done but the flight diverted for weather and a unplanned landing for re-fueling. Word must have spread throughout the whole plane so that during part two of the “non-stop” flight the WiFi speed was a crawl.

The airline industry is moving toward free Wi-Fi. Several major U.S. carriers already implementing the service for their loyalty program members or announcing plans to do so, including Delta, United, Southwest, and American Airlines. JetBlue offers free Wi-Fi on domestic flights, and other airlines like American Airlines are also beginning to offer free service on some flights.

I predict this will only ever be available on <10% of their flights and clawed back within a year.

They would need to offer free tickets and not just free wifi for me to fly them.

My guess is they implemented enough negative changes to increase their revenue high enough where they can throw this perk in for free.
