Our Verdict

They runt his deal a couple of times per year. Just remember that genetic testing isn’t for everybody – please do some research before purchasing this for yourself or somebody else. Here is a good place to start. Knowing that you’re at a genetic risk for something or a carrier for something can really play with your mind. I find these types of things really interesting, but not everybody will.

I don’t think this will stack with all the Shop-with-Points deals given that this product is sold by Woot, not Amazon themselves (though it is shipped by Amazon).

  • Heard Kyle Bass (hedge fund guy) speaking about this on a YouTube video. Said the Chinese are using this data to create bio-weapons that only attack certain ethnic groups. Said the cost of this should be $1,400, and the only way they can do it for less is having the Chinese government subsidize the cost so they can use the data. Who the heck knows what the truth is about it...

  • So did the 23andme DNA test it it turns out I'm only %95 that b*tch. It's turned my world upside down.

  • Allegedly, some testing for DNA-collection companies is done in countries not exactly known for respecting human rights. Are those countries recording and storing your DNA and your relatives'? Do you or your family members work in sensitive jobs? Do you have relatives in countries with oppressive regimes? Something to think about...

    • If they're from Kentucky or Alabama they just need to get their wife/sister/grandmother tested. Thankfully it's a single kit to test all 3.

  • If this is a way to covertly screen the population for superpowers while making money at the same time, then I think not. I would like to keep my superpowers to myself, thank you very much.

  • Anyone considering this should know that they're not only giving away their own genome by doing this, but also that of family and extended family. Once it's out there, you can't take it back.

    • Conversely, if any of your family or extended family have done this, there's already enough info out there to tie you to whatever crime scene you were at.

    • this resonates about as well as telling people when they use facebook they are giving up their privacy. Its a post privacy age my brotha!

      • You are giving up your privacy when you use facebook, but the choice is always yours and you should be informed

        • yeah right, everyone knows, and they use all these sites anyway. Besides if big pharma or big government want your genome they'll get it. All they need is some of your bathroom trash which is public domain and they'll have acquired it legally. Illegally they can get it anyway they want.

        • In some cases you are also giving up the privacy of family and friends, even the ones who wouldn't ever sign up on their own.

    • This. If you absolutely MUST you can easily do this with a pseudonym (use fake name, pay with VGC, have results sent to burner email). But even still, its pretty straightforward to link records to genetic relations, so far from perfect.
