Banks That Offer Early Direct Deposit

A reader reached out asking if we would put together a post of banks that do/don’t offer early direct deposit. Early direct deposit is a feature that some banks or credit unions offer that allows you access to your pay up to two days before it would normally arrive. Normally you don’t need to activate this feature and there is no charge either, but this varies by financial institution.

If you have any datapoints to contribute please do so in the comments below. This is especially important as some banks claim they offer it but in practice that is untrue.

  • I scheduled a push from LendingClub Bank Rewards Checking to Wells Fargo Everyday Checking and received a "You just got paid early!" email around 11 PM ET on the same day it was sent. LendingClub Bank transfers usually arrive the next day at other banks.

  • FNB-PA (First National Bank) does NOT do early DD.

  • @2,

I just noticed that you wrote "All America Credit Union" for my DP #1850702. It is actually called "All America Bank". That's why I created the initialism "AAB" for it. πŸ˜‰

  • PNC Bank did NOT do early DD, but at least pended the day before so you could see it coming.

Technically Bank of Hope did one day early DD, if by looking at the date on the statement, but in reality, it posted overnight late night/wee hours and wasn't visible as pending at any point. There would be no way to spend said funds a day early unless you risked an overdraft with a perfectly timed pull.

  • My GO2Bank DD arrived 4 biz days early this month. March 26 for a April 1st DD.

    • @guest_1992730,

What did you use for a DD for Compass? The reason I ask is because we have opposing DPs. My DD DID NOT post 1 day early.

      • TD to checking MICR. Twice now. However, you need to check Compass the day before the scheduled DD to see it.

For example, one with a maturity of 4/22 would have posted as available on 4/21, as APA TREAS 310 MISC PAY.

But if you look after 4/21 (or possibly after 4/22) you'll see it as having posted on 4/22.

I couldn't calculate whether you get an extra day's interest from Compass because the APY is only .01%. I guess I should have moved those DDs to savings instantly for the 0.20% rate. ;)

        • That's interesting as I didn't look until today. The real question is if it has a posting date of 4/22, is it really an early-DD like you claimed? I vote no!

          • Looks like Compass is NOT real early DD.

This time it showed as pending but not posted one day early, at least up until 11pm Compass time (PT). I didn't stay up for the last hour though.

March, DD1: I was sure it showed "posted" a day early but didn't try transferring it.
            April, DD2: I didn't look at it a day.
May, DD3: It only showed as "pending" a day early. At least until 11pm, which makes it moot.

I'm hoping the bonus credits in time to cancel DD4!

          • The gold standard would be withdrawing cash a day early in branch. I bet you could. Looks like a nice area to visit too, if you like long trips!

I'll try transferring it to savings a day early next time if I get the chance.
