Get an American Express Platinum – Yellow Edition with $1,000 Donation to Charity

American Express will be releasing a special edition Platinum card in yellow instead of the standard platinum color. Any Platinum cardholder can get the yellow card by purchasing a $1,000 ticket to a black-tie event at the Brooklyn Museum on September 10th to benefit the Young Audiences Arts for Learning.

The event is hosted by rapper Pharrell Williams who has partnered with American Express since 2016 on initiatives for their Platinum card, and will feature artist Daniel Arsham, chef Dominique Crenn, and rapper Missy Elliott.

$250 of the cost is considered the estimated value of the ticket which means you’ll get a charity write-off of $750. The yellow Platinum card has all the exact same benefits as the regular Platinum card, no more and no less.

Personally, I’m not into these things related to the makeup of my credit card, but some people find them exciting. It could make sense for someone interested in attending the event and supporting the charity.

so dumb that this is limited to ur expiration date. fuk that. it should be a lifetime option for the original card holder.

but anyway, FYI, the yellow plat has been around since last year and its a special card for Pharrell. probably why u cant keep it.

Not like the Plat is worth the space in your wallet outside of airports. They only people who ever see mine are Centurion desk workers and the occasional SM rep.

Although if you give away $1K like that you probably don’t care so much about optimizing your earn.

Would you have to be a personal non-branded plat holder to be eligible or will Schwab/Morgan Stanley/Ameriprise etc. plat flavor holders be able to qualify for the yellow card?

Jud Linville who runs Citi’s credit card biz is leaving the bank. No insight from doc on implications?

Could be a good collector’s item if you want to try and eventually sell it on ebay after it expires or you cancel the account.

Not sure it’ll ever be worth the $1k you paid for it, but there’s a niche market for items like this.

Will, Chuck, or anyone who knows…

Been away for a bit and quick newbie questions on the new website. I couldn’t find a link or post (file under knowledge base?), so if someone can point to that for answers to the below I’d appreciate it.

What’s the bell next to “post comment” button?
The email below my “name”, is that to avoid moderation? I find my comments now going to mod each time. Full email? not visible publicly right?
Lastly, how to get an avatar?

Thanks!

Thanks Chuck.

Putting my email bypassed moderation (I have plenty of activity).

Also, looks like if one doesn’t put their email, the comment won’t get recorded under your activity history (tried above and below).

honestly, what kind of person finds value in doing this? someone who wants everyone to know how charitable they are each time they pay for something? out at dinner, “wow that yellow card is so interesting” “ahhhh ya its no big deal, just attended this black tie event and donated $1000 to charity and they gave me this”. if you really care about directly benefiting a charity you care about, then you should go give it $1000 yourself. if you care about social circling, making a statement, promoting yourself, hobnobbing with like minded others, then go to pharrell williams amex charity event and get a flashy gold amex platinum card

“what kind of person finds value in doing this? someone who wants everyone to know how charitable they are each time they pay for something?”

Yup. You nailed it. The same kind of person who drops oodles of money to attend a black tie charity event- it’s all about being seen, and so things that last beyond the event itself is a perk.

i dunno, the event sounds fun and the card seems dope to me. people can just want things because they like them. it’s not that serious.

So, I get a gold card that says platinum on it? I can imagine some observant clerks giving me funny looks for that.

It’s not gold, it’s bright yellow. No thanks, I already have a bright yellow card (Vantage West).
