Hilton Extends Elite Status, Lowers Qualification Requirements & More

Hilton has announced a number of positive changes due to COVID-19. They are as follows:

  • Points will not expire until December 31, 2021
  • Status will be extended until March 31, 2022 for any Silver, Gold or Diamond members that were due to downgrade in 2020 or 2021
  • Status qualification requirements will be cut by 50%. This is in addition to nights earned in 2020 rolling over to 2021.
  • Milestone bonus night threshold will be reduced. Previously the lowest of this was set at 40 nights, that is now 20 nights. Gold members will earn 10,000 Bonus Points for 20 nights stayed and will continue earning the additional 10,000 Bonus Points every 10 nights above that level in a calendar year. At 60 nights, a member would still earn the additional Milestone Bonus of 30,000 Bonus Points.
  • Gifting status night threshold to be reduced to the new Diamond status qualification requirement. Diamond members who stay 30 nights in 2021 will be able to gift Gold status (was previously 60 nights) or 60 nights to upgrade the gift to Diamond status (was previously 100 nights).
  • Extended benefits for Hilton Honors American Express card members.
    • Bonus points will continue to count as Base Points on eligible purchases through December 31, 2021 and count towards elite status including Lifetime Diamond.
    • All 2021 issued free weekend night certificates can be used any night of the week and expiration extended until December 31, 2022. Unexpired free weekend nights as of December 31, 2020 will expire based on the previously communicated terms

A lot to get through, but all positive changes. Only real ‘downside’ is that previously extended free night certificates won’t be extended again, we saw the same thing with Marriott.
