Currently there seems to be a widespread issue with United TravelBank funds. When applying these funds as a partial payment and charging the remaining to a credit card the full price is being charged to the credit card rather than just the remaining balance. When contacting United they claim to only see the remaining balance charge, but the full charge is being charged on the credit card.
Here’s an example:
- Book $300 flight
- Use $100 TravelBank funds
- Pay $200 remaining on credit card
- Credit card pends at $200 but eventually posts as $300
It seems that the issue has now been resolved with United sending out an e-mail to customers:
Due to a technical error, you may have noticed that the full cost of your ticket on United Airlines was charged to your credit card, in addition to a deduction from your TravelBank account for this booking you made using these funds.
We apologize for this inconvenience and are processing a refund of any excess charges to your credit card. You should see the refund to your card within seven business days.
Your booking remains valid for travel and can be reviewed on United.com or the United app using the confirmation number provided in your booking confirmation email. Thank you for choosing United Airlines and we look forward to welcoming you on board.
